With trembling hands she opened her laptop and turned it on.
The last few weeks she did it every day at four o'clock, opening her laptop and turning it on. It had become a sort of automatism. But every time she opened her mail, ther was no new email arrived from him. You would expect that she stopped hoping for a new mail, stopped missing him, stopped desiring and expecting.
But she didn't. She hoped, missed, desired and expected. De last email, sent between them, was sent by her on June 11. She assumed that they had built up some kind of pattern. She was the last one who mailed him, he should be the one who sent a new one back.
But he did not. Her mailbox was, every day she looked, empty, besides some mails from school and some, unimportant, friends. She became sick of it, literally, and she sat for days sick on her bed with her laptop on her lap, refreshing her mailbox every minute. Her grandma was worried, but assumed that she missed her parents.
She could feel that today, the third of July, would be different. Hopeful she clicked on the internet icon and waited patiently until the page with her mailbox was loaded, immediately her eyes scanned the page full of newly arrived mails, looking for that one name, and found it between the mails of that day, the third of July. Unexpectedly her heart started beating faster and her finger wiped on the touchpad to bring her mouse on the mail to click it.
Quickly she read the mail. And over and over again. And she couldn't believe it. She had never seen anywhere so often the word sorry. No one had ever used that word for her. That's why she found it a stupid word, but now that he used it that way, she wanted to believe it. She wanted that he meant it, that he meant that he was really sorry that she hadn't heard anything from him in such a long time and that he just left her after she had fallen asleep in his arms.
