I walked into school the next day, determined to find Jessica and apologize to her. I knew she was in my homeroom class so I headed straight there. When I opened the door of the pale blue room with annoyingly bright lights, I saw Jessica right away. She was sitting with her group of friends where they always sat, at the back, in the corner.

"Um, Jessica? Could I talk to you quick?" I lightly tapped her shoulder.

Obediently, she stood up, following me to the other empty corner at the back.

"I'm so sorry about yesterday." I apologized.

"Don't be, it wasn't your fault."

"I know, but I just feel so bad."

"If anyone should, it should be that boyfriend of yours."

Wait, what? Boyfriend?

"Sorry?" I questioned.

"Oh my God." She covered her mouth with her hands. "I totally forgot, you're not together."

"Uh, yeah. Anyways, I just wanted to apologize."

"It's fine, honestly. Don't worry about it."

"Alright, kids. Take your seats." Our tutor, Mr Waters, demanded, breaking our conversation.

It was the end of the day, and I was waiting outside English class for Bailey, so we could head over to her house together.

A little after five minutes, she came out, her arms struggling under the pile of books she was carrying.

"Let me get those." I reached forward and grabbed half of the books, holding them toward my chest.

"You're so cute." She smiled.

"I guess we're going to your locker then?"

"Nope, we're just going to struggle all the way home with these."

"Your sarcasm hurts, you know." I laughed.

As we neared Bailey's locker, I saw Marcus, standing at his own. He looked up, catching my eye, both of us exchanging a smile.

"Oo, what's going on with you two?" Bailey nudged me.

"Nothing. Am I not allowed to smile at someone?"

"Not when you've been pratically inseparable from 'someone' lately."

"Bailey, there's nothing going on." I shoved the books into her locker.

"Hey, Maddie, Bailey."

I twisted, greeted by Marcus' shining smile.

"Hi, Marcus." I grinned.

"Hey." Bailey nodded.

"Maddie, I was wondering if I could talk to you for a second?"

"Sure, go for it."

"I just wanted to ask if you want to do something sometime, like hang out?"

"Yeah, that would be great."

"Awesome, how about we see a movie, tomorrow or something?"

"I'd love to."

"Amazing, I'll text you later. Bye."

"Bye."

"Later, Marcus." Bailey chirped from behind me. "Hmm, nothing going on with you two then?" She stepped out in front.

"Shut up, Bailey." I pushed her softly.
