"Why? I have such a wonderful life here! I don't want to go anywhere!" Paige announced her true feelings to her parents as they told her they were moving because of her father's job. "We are so very sorry Paige, but we have to move for your father to keep his job. Do you want to stay here and be poor and have nothing anymore? Or do you want to move and have nice things and possibly an even better life?" Paige sat in silence as she realized her mother had an excellent point. Does she want to stay and risk loosing everything or move and possibly have even more in her life? Her parents got up and gave her time to think to herself. "What am I going to tell everyone?" she thought to herself. She decided to call her best friend, Caroline, over so she could tell her about what was going to happen. "Hey, could you come over soon? I need to talk to you in person." "Sure, what's wrong kid?" "I will tell you when you get here, Caroline." "Alright. I will be over soon." Then she hung up and waited.
Soon the door bell rang. "I got it!" Paige shouted so no one else bothered getting up. "Hey kid. Now tell me what is going on," Caroline said as she walked through the door and into Paige's room. "Sit down. So I was just told today that we are moving because of my father's job." "What?! Where to?! will we ever see each other again?!" "Dallas, Texas. I don't know. I know we can call each other but very briefly. Letters will probably work out best." "I cant believe you are leaving! Everything has been going great this year!" "I know, Caroline. Things change though. Who knows, maybe when I get there I will make friends fast and have a good life there too. No matter what I will always write to you! I promise." Caroline got up and hugged Paige for a long time. She whispered "things wont be the same..." The two of them were crying. "I know, and I'm very sorry, but I cant do anything about it." "I know, and don't ever blame yourself, you hear me? It isn't your fault and I understand that. I'm going to miss you so much..." "You will still have a great life even if I'm not here. You have a wonderful boyfriend and loads of friends." "Paige, when do you leave?" "This weekend. I have this one last week at school and then we leave Saturday morning." "Wow. That's really sudden." "Its the only notice my father got. You think they would make it at least 3 weeks. So yeah, if you look out the window you can see him putting the FOR SALE sign up," Paige pointed out her window to her father. "After school this week we are hanging out every day. I will help you pack up your belongings as well. Alright?" "Sounds like a plan, C," Paige agreed as a tear rolled down her cheek. "I'm going to go home now, so you can have some time to yourself so you can collect your thoughts and feelings." "That's probably a good idea. I'll see you on Monday, C." "See ya later kid." Caroline then walked out the door.
Paige looked around her room. "How are we going to move all of this stuff that far?" she thought, "We cant take all of this... can we?" Soon enough her father cam in. "Hey, how are you doing?" "How are we going to take all of this stuff to Dallas?" "We have to have other people help drive other vehicles with the stuff. The only thing we have there now is a house, and its not as big as this one, but everything should fit okay." "Oh, wont that cost money to have extra people?" "Yes, but my job pays for it, so its all good." "Oh, that's good. Have you told Logan?" "Your mother is telling him now. The good thing is he isn't old enough to have really strong friendships and again I am very sorry that you have to leave yours, but we might come back for a summer and you can always write letters." "Oh, well then it shouldn't be too bad, right?" "Right. You are a very smart and likeable girl, you should be alright in Dallas." "Haha, hopefully." He ruffled her hair and walked out of the door.
The week came and went and it was already Friday. She got her transfer sheet completed so she could still have credits at her new school. Caroline was over helping her pack the remains of clothing she had out into suit cases. "Caroline, are you, are you crying?" Caroline just turned to her and kept crying. "Caroline! Its going to be okay! We are coming back in the summer to visit!" "I still have this semester to finish out without you though! Who is going to be my lab partner? My gym partner? My band buddy?" "We have other friends in those classes, you should be able to find someone!" "It wont be the same, Paige...." "I know, but we have to be strong and prove that we can still maintain a great friendship, even if we can only write letters and only see each other in the summer." "You are right. I need to stop this right now. We can do it! We are strong and the best of friends!" "Yeah! That's the spirit Caroline!" "Yeah!" They then proceeded in an epic high five of friendship. They finished packing all of Paige's hair care supplies into the last suit case and then said their good byes. "I love you Caroline, don't forget. I will miss you every day. I will write to you as soon as I get there. And I will eagerly await your reply letter." "I love you too, and don't forget about us back here in Oakland. I will write a letter as soon as I get yours and continue to write to you every time and tell you about everything. I will miss you as well. Have fun and don't get into trouble you big dork." "Haha, I wont. Goodbye Caroline." "Goodbye Paige." They had a final hug and then Caroline walked home.
