Kifan said goodbye to her wolves. They were sad that she will be gone once again, but they had faith in her. Kifan gave Link a cloak to use for the cold weather in Snowfall. It was made of white and grey fur, most likely belonging to a Wolfos. Along with the Twili pup, the pair headed off. At the exit to Termina Field, a guard stopped them.
“Halt!” He shouted. “Nobody is allowed out of Clock town due to the dangers that have risen!”
“You’ve got to be kidding me”, Kifan replied, massaging the bridge of her nose in frustration.
“Sorry ma’am! It is the Mayors’ orders.”
“Listen. We have weapons. We are all packed and ready to enter Snowfall.”
“Snowfall!? Ma’am that is risky. Snowfall is covered in darkness and those beasts have migrated there.”
“We are trying to stop them! Now let us through. You are stopping the descendent of the Hero of Time!!!” All in that section of Clock Town fell silent. The guard examined Link. He then stood back in awe.
“He… he really has returned. My apologies sir. Go right through,” said the guard. He then moved out of the way and let the pair through, saluting them as they exited. They walked through Termina field, savouring these last few minutes in the light realm, soaking in the sun's soft rays before they entered the Twili again. Link wanted to find Midna as fast as he can. For some reason, though, he didn’t feel the same when thinking about Midna. His heart used to ache for her but, now it didn't as much. He thought why and finally came up with a solution.
I wonder what happened in Hyrule that made Link fall in love with the Princess of Twilight… Kifan thought. His heart seems to ache for her… Her train of thought was interrupted by the Twili pup yapping. They had come to the wall that separated the light and darkness.
“Well, brace yourself for days of Twilight”, Kifan said to Link. He was prepared, and he was sure to keep Kifan by his side. The Twili pup walked through the wall, then a few seconds later a large hand scooped both of them up, and dragged them into the Twili-infested province.
Once they were in their wolf forms, the Twili pup wondered off, leaving both of them behind. It was ice cold, like the Artic. Kifan was shivering.
Gosh, it is colder than usual, Kifan thought. Colder than when the Hero of Time was here…
“We must get moving as soon as possible”, Kifan said, leading on. “I haven’t been here for a while, so I might be a little rusty when it comes to directions.” Link felt like he was being followed. He checked a few times behind him, but no one was there. There was no life to be seen, not even Shadow Beasts or anything from the Twilight Realm. It felt like both of them were the only ones left alive, that they were the only survivors of the apocalypse.
“It is so depressing… All this darkness… It reminds me of…” Kifan seemed terrified. Her tail was between her legs, and she was trembling in fear. Link trotted up next to her, and made sure she was okay. When he was next to her, she relaxed a bit and walked faster. Kifan came to a stop at a small village.
“This is Snow Village”, Kifan told Link. He examined the area. He could see some Twili bats flying around, and a small orb floating next to a wall. Curious, he walked up to it, Kifan behind him. She used his sense to see that it was a Goron spirit. He was shivering from the cold and seemed to be like he saw something gruesome.
“How did this happen?” The Goron said to himself. “Is it the end of the world as we know? Half of the tribe was murdered by that… thing, and we survivors have scattered. Oh Hero of the prophecies, please help us in this dark hour…”
“Half of the Goron tribe… Murdered!?” Kifan gasped. “I want to slaughter Zant for what he has done all these years!” Kifan was growling, then shot off towards the center of the village, but was stopped by pillars falling around her, creating a small arena. Link ran to the edge of it, trying to find a way in, but it was no use. They were separated. A Twilight portal formed above Kifan and two Shadow Beasts fell out. She glared at them with eyes, boiling in rage.
“I will show you what happens when you mess with my land!!!” She snarled. She backed off as they walked towards her. She seemed to charge something up, as light from inside her mouth leaked out of the gaps between her bared teeth. Once she was at the wall, she breathed in through her nose, and barked a powerful bark. A golden energy orb shot out of her mouth and destroyed the two Shadow Beasts at once. The walls and pillars disappeared and the red on the Twilight portal turned green. Link did not believe what he just saw. It was incredible that she released so much energy and strength.
“What are you looking at?” Kifan said, waking up Link from his thoughts. “That is just a benefit of a witch; now let’s get a move on”. She kept on walking, Link following.
After going through Snow Village, they crossed a bridge above a frozen lake.
“That ice looks really thick”, Kifan said, looking down at the lake. “It hasn’t been that thick since the Hero of Time…” Suddenly, once they walked on the small island that the bridge lead to, something leapt out of the ground and landed with a loud thud; a wolfos, possessed in Twili. It howled and circled them. Link pounced on it, and bit down on its neck. The wolfos shook him off and continued circling them. Kifan tried to bite it this time, and managed to push it to the ground. Link finished it off with a final bite on its already wounded neck and it disappeared. They walked across the other bridge, coming across another Twili wolfos, killing it, and continuing on. Link picked up the scent of blood. Wide-eyed, he walked faster towards the smell. Kifan, also picking up the smell, began to run alongside him.
“The scent is so strong”, Kifan said. “It must be a bloodbath in Goron Village.” They continued on, until they came to a stop at the front of the village. The smell was unbearable, mixed with blood and rotting flesh. Kifan cautiously walked forward, and then caught sight of the large Shadow Beast, in the center of dead Gorons and large blood puddles around the village.
