The car ride was so awkward. He wasn't saying anything and neither was I. I didn't even know where I was going to take him. I offered to go out, but I didn't expect for him to agree so quickly.
He noted something was going on after we were driving for a good few minutes. "You don't know where to go, do you?"
I looked at him slightly, and shook my head with guilt. "No. I frankly wasn't expecting for you to say yes today."
He chuckled. "Alright, go park the car someplace. I'll take us somewhere."
I didn't argue with him and I parked the car in a nearby parking lot. We started out and switched places. As we passed by each other, we caught each other's stare. However, I was so caught into looking into his brown eyes that I didn't watch where I was going and tripped.
I expected to fall straight on my face, but Mark's arm quickly wrapped around my waist. He pulled me up to him and our faces were so near to each other. I saw in his eyes as he looked into mine. It felt right to be in his arms again as well. His eyes traveled down to my lips, as if he was thinking about kissing them, but he reluctantly drew away.
"Be careful," he said with a forced, harsh tone as he went into the car.
I stood there for a few minutes, taking in the moment. How long are we going to continue playing this game? Of course I still held feelings for him, but he was making no move to change or show some type of effort for it. I'm not doing what happened back in high school. I'm not the same person either. So if he wanted to show he loved me too, then he was going to have to make the first move.
____"This is where you wanted to take me?" I asked as Mark pulled up to a empty park.
He looked straight ahead, a calm fixed look on his face. "Yes. This is a place I've grown to love after you left."
I gave him a curious look. "Really?"
"Just follow me," he said, then got out of the car.
I quickly got out of the car and trailed behind him. It didn't take long for him to stop in his tracks. He looked at me slightly, studying my face. I flinched a bit before looking away. He sighed, then continued walking.
"Where are we going?" I asked as we walked for a longer time.
"We're almost there," he said plainly.
I noticed that we walked away from the park entirely and were now on a track filled with trees. Again, nothing was said between us.
He suddenly stopped in front of a bush. "You gotta crawl through here so be careful," he warned. He then set out on his hands and knees and disappeared as he crawled into the bush.
I was a bit hesitant about following him, seeing as this appeared like a silly idea. Nevertheless, I still went ahead and followed him. I was surprised to see what was on the other side.
Mark was sitting in the middle of a garden, trees surrounding it perfectly in a circle. I stared in awe, speechless. This was something you would see come out of a movie or book, yet here I was, standing here in this place. It was real to me.
I looked over at Mark, he was staring up at the sky, letting the cool air flow against him. I blushed as I noticed how attractive he still was and how I craved to go over there and kiss him again. He opened his eyes, then looked at me, smiling slightly.
"Sit with me," he said calmly.
I didn't say anything but walk over to him. I sat down, but left a bit of distance between us. He noticed yet didn't address it.
"So," he began, "how was it in Ireland?"
"Oh, um, it wasn't too bad honestly. It was good for the first year. I traveled around, meet some people, improved my Irish," I explained.
He continued to smile. "I can hear it too."
I laughed, then asked, "What did you do?"
"I tried staying alive is all," he said quietly.
I looked at him worriedly. "What do you mean?"
He smiled, which I can clearly see was fake. "Oh, it's nothing important."
I decided not to argue with him. "If you say so."
He nodded, then everything went quiet again. We sat there in comfortable silence. It was still good to be like this, even if I couldn't hold him or anything.
But the silent moment was cut short when his phone went off. He looked at the message, then he got up with a start. "Fuck, I'm going to be late for work!"
I got up with him. "How far is it?".
He didn't answer as he rushed out of the place. I followed him as quick as I could. He didn't hesitate to quickly drive off when I entered the car.
He looked too focused on getting to his job that he didn't realize that he passed a red light. It was quite surprising to me that he was so worried about his job, he wasn't like this before.
However, when he pulled up to the building, I noticed it was not the same place as he was working before.
It was a bar.
He threw me the keys. "I'm sorry Jack. I should've told you this, but I can't." Then he got out.
I watched as he ran up to the building to be greeted with a female who kissed his cheek. I got out the car and switched into the passenger seat before seeing the sad look on Mark's face.
He disappeared when I drove quickly away from him and his work.
I kept wondering how many more secrets he was keeping me as I went back home. I don't know if I'm going to be able to handle all of them.
____A/n: omg I'm not doing so well with updating any of my stories these days 💔 but I'm doing my best
