It was the first day of training for the candidates and Natalie was up early as their first test would wake them from their sleep.Natalie and Merlin stood behind a two-way mirror which helped them see into the room full of candidates. But to the candidates, it was just a mirror. Natalie held a clipboard in her hand with all the names of the candidates so she could identify each one. Her hair pulled up into a messy bun as she couldn't be bothered curling it today. Natalie and Merlin watched as the room starting to fill with water, much to the surprise of the candidates.
Once everyone woke up, they all stood on their beds, wondering what to do. Charlie and Roxy seemed to know what to do so headed for the toilets, with everyone following them. But Eggsy didn't move. The water then engulfed the whole room, leaving Eggsy no option but to swim. To Natalie's surprise, he swam for the door, whilst the others did the shower heads down the loo trick.
Eggsy finally realised the door wasn't going to open, so headed to the toilets on the other side of the room. For a moment, Natali thought he would follow the others. But he didn't. He seemed to notice it was two way mirror, so started to punch it. Natalie smiled, as she noticed it too back when she was in training. Natalie then noticed the glass started to crack under Eggsy's knuckle, allowing her and Merlin to move aside, ready for the glass to break and the water to come rushing out.
The glass then finally gave way and all the water came flushing out, bringing the candidates with it. The water went away leaving the candidate to breathe heavy, trying to get their breath back.
"Congratulations on completing your first task." Merlin addressed the group. "Charlie, Roxy, well done. For those of you who are still confused, if you can get a breathing tube around the U-bend of a toilet, you have unlimited air supply. Simple physics worth remembering. Eggsy well done for spotting that was a two-way mirror." Nat sent Eggsy another smile, telling him he did well.
"He's probably seen enough of them." Charlie seemed to joke, making some of the boys in the group smile. But there was nothing to smile about.
"Yeah well you can wipe those smirks off your faces" Natalie spoke up. "Because as far as me and Merlin are concerned all of you have failed. Weirdly, you all forgot the most important thing, teamwork." Natalie and Merlin both pointed back to the room the candidates were just in, as one of them, Amelia, was laid on her back, on the floor, dead. They forgot her and she died because of it.
The group slowly stood up and walked closer to the room, realising what they had just done.
"So much for classic army technique." Eggsy spoke, but with no response from anyone.
The next day and the candidates were put into a new room and brought outside the building to make a very important decision.
"As some of you will have learnt last night, teamwork is a paramount here at Kingsman."Merlin began, him and Natalie stood on a balcony overlooking the candidates. "We're here to enhance your skills, test you to the limit. Which is why you're going to pick a puppy." In front of the candidate were cages full of puppies. All different breeds, shapes and sizes.
"Now pick wisely, as wherever you go, your puppy goes. You will care for it and teach it. And by the time it's full trained, so will you be." Natalie spoke, making her way down to the dogs via some steps. "Unless you don't make it, then it will be just your dog. Do you understand?" Natalie asked, stroking a puppy's paw which hung out of it's cage. The candidates nodded. "Good. Now choose your puppy." Natalie watched as the group chose their dogs.
"Nice choice, Roxy." Nat smiled at the only girl left. Roxy smiled back and walked her new puppy, a poodle, into line. Nat then noticed Eggsy make his pick. The smallest puppy he could find. She thought to say something. "Are you sure about the pug, Eggsy?" Natalie asked him, earning a confused look from Eggsy.
"It's a bulldog, innit?" Eggsy asked, making Nat shake her head 'no'. "It will get bigger though, won't it?" Another sake of Natalie's head answered his question.
"Not by much." Natalie told him, earning a smirk from Charlie. "But don't worry, you'll be fine." She sent Eggsy a reassuring smile. Somehow he didn't believe her, but stuck with the pug anyway.
Later that day and Natalie was helping Eggsy train his pug, or J.B. as Eggsy decided to call him. Natalie remembered what Merlin said 'NO FAVORITISM JUST CAUSE HE'S YOUR DAD'S CANDIDATE'. But Natalie wanted to help Eggsy. He seemed alone in this world, there was nothing against her being his friend.
"J.B. Sit." Eggsy tried to command the pug. But the pug just looked at Eggsy like he was stupid. Natalie laughed as Eggsy had been trying this for almost an hour. "Sit J.B." Once again, J.B. refused. "Fine, be a dickhead." Eggsy huffed, defeated by a puppy not even an eighth his size.
"You have to be nicer Eggsy, he is only a puppy." Natalie informed him.
"A puppy with an attitude." Eggsy said back, kneeling down to stroke little J.B. on the head. "So when you were training, what puppy did you pick?" He asked, picking up J.B. in his arms.
"A German Shepard. Used as police dogs. Tough and easy to train." Natalie sounded proud of her pick of puppy.
"What'd you call him or her?" Eggsy asked, wanting to know more about this woman.
"Marty." Eggsy gave her a weird look, as if to say 'why Marty?'. "After Marty Mcfly from Back To The Future. One of my favorite films of all time." Nat explained.
"Nerdy or what?" Eggsy seemed to tease.
"Coming from Mr James Bond." Nat teased back.
"It's not James Bond." Eggsy argued.
"Of course it is."
"It's not."
"It is!" They argued back and forth. It would have carried on but an Agent stopped that.
"Gawain!" An agent called to Natalie, jogging up to her in the field.
"Yes?" Natalie asked the agent.
"Your father is in the medical ward. He seems to be in a coma." Those word made Natalie's heart stop. Her father in a coma? Surely not.
"Oh my god." Natalie whispered, not knowing what to say or do.
"Come with me to see him." Natalie nodded and ran with the agent to the room her father was in. Without being told to Eggsy quickly followed, wanting to know if Harry would be alright.
Natalie pushed the door to Harry's room open and froze at the sight of him. Harry was unconscious with just a oxygen mask on him helping him to breathe. Merlin and Arthur were already in the room.
"Oh dad." She whispered, leaning down to move hair out of his face. "What happened?" Nat asked, trying to keep herself from crying.
"We're not sure but what we do know is there was an explosion, hence why he's in a coma." Merlin explained to the girl.
"How long will he be like this?" Natalie asked frantically, wanting to know how long she would have to wait to talk to him again.
"We don't know, my dear." Arthur told her, just as Eggsy began to stroll in. "He will make it, I'm sure." The old man sent Natalie a smile, but she just kept her attention on her father.
"Is he gonna be alright?" Eggsy spoke up. Natalie acknowledged Eggsy was in the room, but didn't take her eyes off her dad.
"We need to have patience, Eggsy. But there's hope, okay?" Merlin told him. "If I were you I'd concentrate on your training. Make it through the tests. Make him proud." Eggsy nodded agreeing. He took one look at Natalie then left.
"Come on Natalie. You'll be told as soon as he wakes up." Merlin placed a hand on her shoulder, rubbing it gently.
"Okay." She nodded and moved up to give her father a kiss on the forehead. "Don't leave me dad." Natalie whispered finally before leaving with Merlin by her side. She hoped with everything she had that Harry would pull through and be back a home burning her bacon on a morning. All she could do was hope.
