I woke up in Demetri's room, the bright sunlight coming in from the open window was hurting my eyes and I squinted. I rolled onto my back and tried to sit up but was hit by a wave of dizziness as my head spun violently. I lost too much blood from when Demetri bit me in the car yesterday. Was it yesterday? I don't remember much, I probably passed out in the car. That asshole, I thought trying to sit up again. I succeeded with maximum effort and placed my feet on the soft carpeted floor. I heard a chuckle from behind me and froze in my spot. It's Demetri, it has to be him from the way my body lit up.
"Good morning darling." He drawled as he knealt before me. I only stared at him not responding. I don't know what he will do to me if I'm rude to him again. Maybe he'll choke me to death this time. I thought and he laughed and reached up to touch my cheek, I automatically flinched when his cold fingers made contact with my cheek.
"Jessabell, I will never kill you." He said seriously looking in my eyes with his gray ones. I narrowed my eyes at him and found my voice.
"What a shame." I muttered bitterly and he smirked.
"Still so fiesty." He muttered amused "go take a shower, then come and eat.you've been out for almost three days."
My eyes widened, three days, I was out for three fricking days!!!
"Jessab-" Demetri started but I cut him off.
"I missed football practice because of you." I said glaring at him and his facial expression turned to one if confusion.
"You're worried about football?" He asked.
I ignored him and stood up. Swaying slightly with the dizziness. Demetri grabbed my arm to steady me. "Don't touch me." I hissed yanking my arm away from him. I expected some retaliation from him but I got none, he stepped away from me and I walked into the bathroom and locked the door. I stood before the mirror which was above the sink and stared at my reflection. I look the same, except for the red marks around my throat made by Demetri's hand and the small crown with Demetri's name beneath it right at the junction of my neck and shoulder. I raised my left hand to touch the mark but stopped when I saw a thin silver bracelet clinging to my wrist. I brought my hand before my face to examine the bracelet. Its a simple silver bracelet with a diamond pendant in the front with the head of a wolf embedded in the diamond. Moving my right hand to the latch, I tried to open the bracelet but immediately pulled my fingers away when I felt a shocking pain erupt in my fingers when I touched the clasp. Just to make sure, I tried to touch it again and the same thing happened.
That's when I realized what the bracelet was. I've read stories about the bracelet but I never knew it existed for real. It's the royal enchanted bracelet that the brides of the males from the royal family wear when they disobey their mates. It's enchantment makes the person wearing it weak. The silver suppressing the wolf instincts of the person has them virtually dependent on their mates. The bracelet is charmed so that only the king or the person's mate can take it off. If the person wearing it tries to pull it off it will shock them and the Male will feel his mate trying to take the bracelet off. The book also said that it's a tracking device too.
Demetri put this on me so that he can stalk me. I can't leave unless he allows me to leave. That's why I was out for so long, the bracelet knocked me out. That bastard. I growled in frustration and anger then turned on the pipe and filled the bathtub with water and squirted some bubblebath in the water as I brushed my teeth and brushed out my hair with the brush Demetri had left in the bathroom.
I was sitting in the bathtub surrounded by bubbles with my knees pulled up to my chest thinking about my shitty situation when a soft knock came at the bathroom door.
"Jessabell, are you OK in there?" Demetri's voice sounded from the other side of the door. Hearing him sound so concerned about me was my undoing. The tears I had so desperately tried to keep in finally started flowing down my cheeks. Yeah, be concerned, especially since this is all your fucking fault. I thought angrily burying my face into my knees and tangling my fingers in my hair.
The knocking at the door got louder and Demetri's incessant voice telling me to open the door or he'll break it was making me cry harder as the full extent of my situation finally hit me with the force of a tsunami.
The door opened with a bang as he broke the lock and the door swung back and hit the wall. I didn't move from my spot in the tub, I kept my face buried in my knees as I pulled at my hair. I could feel strands of my hair breaking free of their roots but I didn't care, I couldn't seem to stop crying.
"Jessabell." Demetri said softly laying his hand on my back. I tensed and resisted the urge to shove his hand away. With his free hand, he reached for one of my hands which was gripping my hair tightly and tried to remove it from my hair.
"Jessabell please just-" He began but I cut him off.
"I hate you." I whispered softly in a voice that sounded broken even to my own ears. Demetri froze with his hands on me.
"Jessabell, please don't say that." He said in a pained voice but I ignored him and stared at the wall before me. He tried to touch my legs and that's when I snapped out of it.
"The fuck are you doing?!" I hissed shoving him away from me. His gray eyes darkened at my use of curse words.
"I was about to take you out of the tub." He said
"I can take myself out." I hissed, in more ways than one. I thought mentally snickering to myself. Demetri let out a furious growl at my thoughts and grabbed my upper arms and spun me around to face him. He looked livid and I cringed in fear of him hitting me.
"Don't you ever entertain any of those thoughts ever again Jessabell." He growled shaking me slightly still grasping my upper arms he pulled my naked body from the bath tub and placed me in the shower to wash off. "Hurry up." He hissed before leaving me in the bathroom to rinse the soapy bubbles from my body.
Once finished, I wrapped a large fluffy beige towel around my body after drying off then made my way back to the bedroom where Demetri sat stock still in the same chair he was in when I woke up. His gray eyes came up to look at me and I shuffeled my feet awkwardly.
"I don't have any clothes." I stated boringly looking away from him.
"The dress you wore when I came to get you on your birthday is in my closet." He stated keeping his eyes trained on me as I walked into his large walk-in closet and searched through racks of clothes for my pink dress. I found my dress in a dressbag along with a black bra and panty set. After hastily pulling the clothes on, I walked back to Demetri's bedroom and crawled back into the bed. I sat with my back against the headboard.
"Come have some breakfast." Demetri said making his way over to me.
"I'm not hungry." I muttered. It's not a lie or me being stubborn, I'm really not hungry. In fact I feel sick, like I'm about to throw up at any moment. This isn't PMS. Because my period ended yesterday so it couldn't be that. But I have been feeling very nauseous since I saw the bracelet on my wrist.
"You need to eat something darling." He said sitting beside me. I automatically pulled my knees up to my chest and flinched when he reached out to touch my hair.
"I'll eat when I'm hungry, just please leave me alone right now." I begged him softly my voice cracking on the word 'please'as warm tears pooled in my eyes.
"Jessabell I-" Demetri began and I snapped my teary eyes to him and he stopped talking.
"Demetri please, just go and leave me be." I begged laying down and pulling the soft gold comforter over my head as I began to sob softly.
I heard Demetri sigh as he got up and left the room. I stayed there curled up into a ball lost in my own depressing thoughts for hours until the sun began to set and a gentle knock graced the door to the room. I didn't move. I couldn't move even if I wanted to, My body refusing to listen to any of my commands.
The door slowly pushed open revealing Violet, Freya and the pregnant blonde girl who dissed me before I left the castle. They all carefully walked over to the bed as I just stared at the wall before me, my eyes unblinking and my body unmoving except for my soft even breathing.
Freya fell into my line of sight but I didn't really see her. This happens every time I start to fall into a shallow state of depression. My body shuts down and I loose focus, I loose sleep I actually loose a lot of things when I get depressed. My doctor diagnosed this condition when I was about nine years old.
"Jessabell?" Freya asked. I could hear her voice but it sounded to be coming from the far end of an overcrowded tunnel. My vision started to get blurry and there were two Freyas standing before me as my stomach rolled with nausea.
"Jessabell, I just wanted to-" The blonde girl began to say but was cut off when I jumped from the bed and bolted into the bathroom, heaving the limited contents of my stomach into the toilet. My head continued to spin furiously as I blinked trying to right myself. I could hear commotion in the room before arms grabbed me from behind just as my vision began to get dark around the edges and I began falling to the ground.
"Jessabell!" I heard Demetri's frantically worried voice call from the end of the dark hole in which I was sinking. I felt him pick me up bridal style before I passed out in his arms.
"She should wake up in a little while, My Prince." A soft female voice said from above me.
"It's been eight hours, what's wrong with her?" Demetri's voice sounded frustrated. Confused, anxious and worried all at once.
"I'm sorry your majesty but we don't know." The female voice replied "is she pregnant?" The female asked "her test results haven't come back as yet so we won't know for sure what's wrong until they do."
"Not yet." Demetri replied rubbing his thumb over the back of my hand.
"Okay then, I've called Dr.Maccallum." She said
"Who's that?"
"Princess Jessabell's doctor." She replied softly. There was a rushing in my ears before I was once again out like a light.
This time when I wake, my eyes are actually able to open. I notice that I'm in a very sterile looking white room with an IV attached to my wrist. Okay then. I must be in the hospital. Looking to my left, I see Demetri seated in a plush chair beside my bed holding my left hand. My eyes shifted back to the Iv and I pulled my limp hand from out of Demetri's and moved it to my wrist in an attempt to pull it out.
Demetri's head snapped up and he looked at me with worried gray eyes.
"You're awake." He said shocked before his eyes fell to my fingers pulling the needle from my wrist. "What are you doing?" He asked just as it started to pull from my wrist.
Demetri grabbed my hand and kept me from pulling the annoying thing from my poor hand as he took out his phone and made a call.
"I was so worried about you." Demetri said and I didn't respond "Jessabell what happened?" He asked worriedly cupping my face in his large warm hands. I still didn't respond, to be honest my brain is actually struggling to process his words.
"Jessabell." He said moving my face a bit. I raised my left hand to try and pull his hands away from my face and he let me.
I sighed and looked at the door as Dr.Maccallum walked in. His medium height, muscular build and shaggy blonde hair made him look much younger than his actual forty five years of age.
"Jessabear!" He greeted flashing me one of his charming smiles and I couldn't help but crack a smile back at him. He was my psychiatrist when I was little and he's been my personal therapist ever since.
"Who are you?" Demetri asked gritting his teeth as he glared at Dr.Maccallum.
"Your Majesty, I'm Dr.Maccallum." He said to Demetri and he frowned. "I'm Jessabell's psychiatric doctor." He explained further and I took the opportunity when Demetri was distracted to yank the IV needle from my arm with a wince. My arm bled a little and both Demetri and Dr. Maccallum turned to look at me as the salty metallic scent of blood filled the air.
Demetri grabbed my hand and looked at my now healed wrist where the needle was implanted. I pulled my hand away from him slowly and crossed my arm over my chest. His eyes moved to my face searchingly and I looked away.
"With all due respect your Majesty, I think it would be best if you leave while I talk to Jessabell." Dr.Maccallum said and Demetri's eyes snapped to him.
"No."
"My prince, she will not speak to me if you're in here." He said and I couldn't help but thinking that he knows me so damn well. At my thoughts, Demetri turned to look at me with a pained expression before it vanished and he leant over to kiss my forehead.
"I'll be outside." He said then left closing the door softly behind him.
"What have you done this time?" Dr.Maccallum asked moving to the chair beside the bed. I gave him a look then frowned at him
"I didn't do anything." I said in a raspy voice, my troath is parched. I tried to get down from the bed but found I was very weak. Dr.Maccallum looked at me worriedly.
"I'll go get the prince to help you." He said moving to stand .
"No!" I hissed as my feet landed on the ground "I don't want his help, I don't want anything from him. Why can't you help me?" I asked as an after thought.
"He said not to touch his mate. I'm guessing I would have been able to help if I was female but I'm not."
"I'm perfectly capable of doing this myself." I muttered making my way to the small bathroom in the room. I took care of some lady business and brushed my teeth with a new toothbrush-still in its package- I found on the counter.
When I looked at myself in the mirror, I had to laugh. I had dark circles under my eyes, my entire face was red with what looked like the tiny bumps I got from heat rashes and my hair was frizzy and puffed up all over the place. I look wonderful, I thought sarcastically. Rolling my eyes then making my way back to the bed.
"Okay Charles, let's talk." I addressed Dr.Maccallun by his first name and he smiled at me and shook his head before asking what happened, I related the events of the past few days to him careful not to reveal the part where Demetri 'touched' me in my room. He listened and took notes up until I mentioned the bracelet on my left wrist then he asked to see it his response was "wow, I thought they stopped using this like a century ago."
"Stopped using this when now?!?!" I exclaimed in horror.
"No royal member has worn that since about a century ago, I think I might have my timing confused but if its not one its two centuries." He explained distractedly, lost in thought.
So Demetri put an ancient piece of jewelry on me so I won't run away because I'll be too weak. That is low, like really low. Even for him.
Dr.Maccallum and I talked for a while and he prescribed me some antidepressants to take after dinner because they will make me tired. I've had them before but I never took them and I sure as hell don't plan to start taking them now.
After Dr.Maccallum left, Demetri came back and tried to talk to me but I refused to even look at him. I really don't want him anywhere near me at this point in time.
"Jessabell, what did he say?" He asked seating himself back in the chair beside me and trying to take my hand. I snatched my hand away and lay down on my side with my back to him hoping he will go away and leave me alone.
"Jessabell," he hissed annoyed at my lack of response. I continued to ignore him. I closed my eyes and soon fell asleep thinking about how the hell I'll play football with this thing on my wrist.
It makes me too weak to even stand on my own how will I play a game where I have to tackle bear like structures? I'm convinced that Demetri is my mate so that he'll ruin my life. Haven't I been punished enough. Anyone who was born in a family like mine would think they have been punished a lot already. Well they would have probably run away but I'm not like that I don't run away from my problems well except this very large problem next to me called Demetri. This one I will gallop my way from. Not run gallop.
I severely hate Demetri at this moment. I thought sinking my nails into my pillow as he growled at my thoughts.
"Behave yourself." He growled grabbing the ends of my hair and pulling hard. I winced and fought back my tears. Is this what my life will always be like? Is this what Demetri will always be like? If this is supposed to be my life I don't want it. I'd rather die than live like this. Was my my Last thought before I fell into a deep sleep plagued with images of Demetri's purple eyes and his hands pulling my hair or wrapped around my neck. This was not just a nightmare this is my reality.
