It was the screams that woke her later that night. At first she thought she was stuck in a bad dream after the movie but as her brain caught up with her body she realised it was coming from up the hall.  She sat up in bed and looked out the window where she was met with a black sky, it was nowhere near morning.  She swiped around on her bedside locker looking for her  phone before grasping it and finding out it was four o'clock in the morning. She got out of bed and grabbed her dressing gown that was hanging on the back of her door before silently silently creeping out of it. Louise made her way down the hall and her heart began to wrench as she realised the noises were coming from Bucky's room. She stood silently at the door debating whether or not to enter when a soft whine came from the other side and made up her mind for her. She opened the door but it made no noise and so she closed it softly behind her before she turned to look at Bucky. He was drenched in sweat and had kicked most of the sheets off his bed, his face was screwed up into a tight frown and he let out a yell or a soft plea every few seconds. Louise's heart broke as she watched him toss and turn whining and whimpering in pain, she had to do something.  She remembered reading somewhere that waking someone fully from a violent nightmare was a dangerous thing and the fact that it was Bucky multiplied the risk tenfold, but she couldn't leave him like this. She moved closer to the bed, still keeping out of harm's way and racked her brain for something to do. An idea came to her and she cleared her throat slightly before starting to sing, "It's just another night and I'm staring at the moon. I saw a shooting star and I thought of you." He stopped mumbling and she moved in a little closer to him and continued to sing as she reached out to softly touch his hair. He didn't wake so she began to stroke his hair gently away from his forehead, it was damp and cold and all she wanted to do was hold him close. He stopped moving and his breathing evened out so she stopped singing and began to talk to him. "Shh honey, you're okay, it's just me Buck, come on wake up, wake up for me please" she cooed softly and she pressed a small kiss to his forehead. Louise heard his breathing stop and she pulled away quickly as he sat up poised to strike, his eyes were wild like a caged animals. "Bucky" she said softly and he visibly calmed at the sound of her voice, his shoulders slumped and she stepped closer to him. He reached out and grabbed her waist pulling her close so he could lay his head on her chest; she stayed still to give him time to adjust. Eventually he let out a sigh and dropped his hands from her waist so she took her chance and wrapped her arms around his shoulder pulling him back to her chest where he wrapped his arms back around her waist. "You okay" Louise mumbled into his hair as she rubbed circles into his back, hoping to help him relax a little more. "Yeah" his voice was gravely and more than a little shaky, he pulled away and moved to the other side of the bed and patted the space beside him and she didn't hesitate to get in. As soon as she was in he pulled her close so she was pressed against his chest looking up at him and for the third time he wrapped his arms around her again. "That was a real stupid idea doll, I could have hurt you", he groaned and Louise rolled her eyes "you didn't hurt me, besides I could hear you screaming in my room, I wasn't going to leave you like that" she nuzzled into his shoulder her eyes closing slightly. "Well the first time Steve tried to wake me up I gave him a broken nose" Bucky replied seriously and she burst into laughter. "I know it's not supposed to be funny but that's hilarious" her giggles subsided and Bucky just rolled his eyes. "Do you want to talk about it" Louise pressed her nose into his shoulder and he shook his head, "no I'd rather not." She didn't push him, if he didn't want to talk about it that was up to him. The longer they lay there though the tenser he became until eventually he let out a deep sigh and removed one hand from her back to rub his face. "I need to tell you something, I'm not sure how this is going to go but I have to say this, I care about you too much not to" he cleared his throat and her heart skipped a beat."Tony doesn't just hate me because I have... feelings for you" he began, not quite the admission she was hoping for but  he had feelings for her. She opened her mouth to say something but he stopped her, "Louise let me finish please" his voice was low and now she was a little worried. "You know about my past don't you, about what they made me do?" he twisted his hands in the blankets and she nodded slowly wrapping one of her hands around his. "I killed a lot of important people Louise" his voice caught slightly and she gently caressed the back of his hand, "two of those people were Howard and Maria Stark" her hand fell away from his as she looked into his deep blue eyes clouded with remorse."No, you couldn't have it was a car accident, it wasn't you, it was an accident" her voice shook as she tried to explain it to herself, she couldn't picture it, her Bucky, her sweet, dorky, flirty Bucky, had killed her grandparents. "Louise look at me,please" his voice cracked but she couldn't, she could feel the bile clambering up her throat looking for an escape. "I'm sorry Bucky, I just, I need to be alone right now"the sobs began and before he could open his mouth she had darted out of the room and into her own swiftly slamming the door behind her. Louise sank down to the floor, her knees tucked under her chin as her body convulsed, how was it possible? She knew everything, she knew what they made him do, but the rational side of her thinking was gone and all that was left was a voice screaming murder over and over again.
