It's been a week since Elliot collapsed in her studio, her grandmother stayed with her trying to nurse her back to health. According to the doctor Elliot suffered from dehydration, but the girls knew better.
After finding out that the man she saw in the newspaper with Patricia was in fact related to Elliot. Sofia and Clara left the women to themselves checking in on them periodically to make sure things were ok. By the time they arrived home she usually found them.
During breaks from class Sofia continued to keep tabs on the media, never finding anything on the newly engaged couple. This alone was strange and she was sure there had to be more to the situation. Those days she spent watching the way Patricia looked at Elliot. There was no way she could believe the woman left on her own accord.
It was late in the evening as usual when the younger women returned home. They walked in quietly into the home trying not to make any noise not wanting to disturb the other women. Sofia walked in and dropped her school bag on the desk and switched on the lamp.. "Why don't you go and shower. I'll make us something to eat, " She placed a kiss on Clara's forehead and ushered her up the stairs before making her way to the kitchen.
Half way into preparing the meal she heard a crash near the front door. "Are you alright?" Sofia called out as she made her way towards the sound. Clara was always clumsy and she had hoped she did not take another tumble down the stairs. "Mrs. Shaw, Are you alright?" She asked, walking over to the older woman who was kneeling on the floor. When she stepped closer Sofia noticed the scattered paintings.
"There were so many," The old woman whispered. Sofia looked at the paintings and plucked one from the scattered bunch."She's so talented. I had no idea she still painted." The old woman whispered, tears fell as she continued to stack them together. "I thought she had given up after her Parents..."
Sofia's heart ached as she watched the grown woman break into a sob. "Here, let me help you," Sofia kneeled beside the older woman and gathered the remaining paintings.
"These should be in an art gallery not buried in some basement studio." The woman wiped away her tears. Sofia nodded in agreement, stood and offered her a hand.
"She's is extremely talented. How is she?" Sofia asked.
"I know there's something else going on but she won't tell me." With the worried look on the woman's face Sofia could tell how much the older woman loved her granddaughter.
"I'm making some dinner. Why don't you join us? I'll tell you what I know."
Clara showered and dressed then made her way downstairs. She paused, hearing the conversation between her girlfriend and the older woman, she let out a sigh, hearing the pain in the Shaw woman's voice. Elliot's depression was not only affecting herself, but the people around her as well.
She mentally cursed Patricia. Her heart broke in understanding if Sofia had left her, she would be in much worse shape. She clutched at her chest, just the thought was painful. It caused her to turn and make her way back up the stairs. Elliot was her friend and she would not let her suffer alone.
Sofia brought out wine glasses and poured them a drink, before turning back to the stove. She crumbled some bacon and stirred it into the pot of corn chowder as she recounted the day she had been sent to the bungalow for her new assignment.
The memory brought a smile to her face, remembering the surprised look on her girlfriend's face. She explained how Elliot got the resort to pay the girls and release them from the rest of their commitments.
Elizabeth smiled, knowing just how caring her granddaughter was. Even as a child, Elliot hated having people wait on her, even those hired to look after her.
