Elliot glared at the closed door, she could not believe she was once head over heels in love with that... that woman. She spun on her heels to find her two roommates standing there with their mouths agape. She guessed their reaction was because they have never seen her act so rudely before. Well, they were in for another surprise.
She stared angrily at her grandmother and crossed her arms over her chest. "Why didn't you tell me?" Elliot fumed. "Is this the reason why you decided to expose my existence tonight, after years of agreeing it wasn't safe?" She ran her hand through her hair and continued her bombardment of questions. "And where did you get those painting from? Have you ever considered that I may not have wanted to sell them?" Elliot argued, even though she secretly didn't think her work was good enough to sell, to begin with.
Elizabeth sighed and rubbed her temple. "It's time to stop hiding in the shadows, Elliot. Your uncle has been locked away for years. He can't hurt you anymore." She was exhausted by her attempts and trying to make her granddaughter happy while failing miserably. Elizabeth took a seat on a cushioned bench that sat near the doorway.
Elliot thought about Samuel, it wasn't him she was afraid of, he wasn't the brightest man. She had gone through the case file when she got older. There were many attempts on the family in the past, threats towards her father as well as her grandmother. It was something she thought her uncle could never have done on his own.
Thinking about it now, she let her arms fall to her side and lowered her head in shame. How could she have let her grandmother go through everything alone while she stayed hidden and safe all these years?
"I'm sorry," she whispered.
"Análise was right I'm always meddling." Elizabeth waved her granddaughters apology off. "She's right."
"No, she's not." Elliot sat beside the old woman and took her hand in hers. "You have done everything for me. I thought by me trying to find my own way in life, the photography, the painting, turning dad's old gym into a home. I thought maybe... just maybe somehow that would ease the burden of you having to take care of me." Elliot spoke honestly.
Since the day of the accident, her grandmother had always been there for her, helping her through her rehabilitation, getting her the help she needed to learn how to walk again, dealing with her depression and mood swings. All while dealing with the loss of both of her sons. Elliot was never close to her uncle's family but still, she knew her grandmother loved both her sons equally.
"Come on you two, dinner is ready." Análise looked like she was wiping away a tear as she spoke from the hallway. Elliot looked up to find her friends had left them to their private conversation. She knew her grandmother's companion was close by listening to the whole conversation because she always picked the right time to make her presence known.
"Hey," Clara spoke hesitantly when Elliot entered the dining room. She looked down at her plate not wanting to keep eye contact with the blue-eyed woman, afraid she might find disappointment in them.
Elliot took a seat across of her friends, she looked from Clara to Sofia and gave an apologetic smile, "I'm sorry for leaving the beautiful event you all planned." Her eyes landed on her grandmother.
"We are the ones who should apologize," Clara raised her head to look at her friend."We..."
Elliot shook her head."It okay, I know you were all just trying to help, and honestly, it's a relief, I hated having to refer to Grans by her first name, or pretend I didn't know who she was if we were ever in the same place." Elliot reached out and placed her hand over her grandmother's, Clara let out a breath of relief hearing the relaxed tone in Elliot's voice and chuckled.
