Elliot stayed slumped in her seat, oblivious to the other passengers who gathered their belonging as they moving around the cabin of the aircraft and headed to the excited. "Ms, it's time to disembark, do you require any help?" Elliot looked up at the flight attendant, her face vacant of any expression.
"I got her," Sofia spoke from behind the woman. "Come on Eli, let's get you home." Elliot looked up at Sofia, she stood up from her seat, finding Clara there holding her laptop and camera bag. Her mind was still numb from the pain in her chest, that refused to subside.
The ride back to Elliot's was quiet, neither Clara or Sofia knew what to say. Forty minutes later they reached their new home near Washington Square. The building sat discreetly on a tree-lined block nestled between two, two-story apartment buildings. The outside of the old warehouse building was converted beautifully to blend in with its surroundings.
The three exited the cab, removed their luggage from the trunk and made their way inside. They were greeted by a library area which looked like a great place to study. A spiral style staircase stood towards the left side of the room lead to the other levels and was surrounded by half empty book shelves.
Walking further in was the kitchen, dining area and a very large living room illuminated by the large skylight overhead. "The both of you can have the entire second floor, feel free to use whatever you need," she finished. The younger women watched as Elliot walked back to the entrance area and climbed the stairs disappearing from sight. "Should we be leaving her alone?" Clara asked.
"The sooner we head back to the dorm and pack the sooner we can come back and keep an eye on her," Sofia answered. Heading towards the front door, she curiously opened a side door she had not noticed when they entered. The light flickered on exposing a large garage and Elliot's SUV. Sofia looked left and found a set of keys dangling. "Well, she said we could use whatever we like," she grinned.
Clara frowned at her girlfriend, "I don't think this is what she meant Sofia."
"Look it will make it easier and a lot faster. We can be back here in a few hours," she countered. Clara thought about the raven haired woman upstairs, the thought that she would be here alone to dwell on her heartbreak made her agree with Sofia's logic.
Eliott sat in her room on the edge of her king size platform bed, she stared aimlessly into the empty fireplace which sat below her large flat screen tv. It's been a few days since Patricia disappeared. She needed to pull herself out of this slump, but the ache in her chest refused to let her mind think clearly.
She stood and made her way back downstairs picking up her camera as she continued to the lower level basement studio. She took a blank canvas and placed it on the easel. She meticulously uncapped and placed small jars of paint on the table beside it. She picked up the brush and closed her eyes.
Four hours later, Sofia and Clara pulled back into the garage, their packing took longer than expected plus they stopped off to go grocery shopping. Each girl made several trips from the vehicle. They stocked up the kitchen with the items they had purchased before settling their things in the larger of the two rooms on the second floor. "We should check on Elliot and let her now we're back," Clara suggested.
The women climbed the stairs to the third floor, the floor to the ceiling window lining the staircase gave them a great view of their neighborhood. Reaching the third-floor landing, Sofia noticed the stairway went another flight up. Clara raced around from room to room, she started to worry when they all came up empty, "She's not here," she said in a panicked voice.
"I'll check the upper level," Sofia offered. Clara nodded but followed her anyway. The stairs lead to a large glass double door and opened to a rooftop terrace. The girls stood there in awe before remembering the reason they were there.
