Day 9
I can think about was last night. I woke up with his hand by mine. it looked as if it was empty. like something had been there but it was gone now. the hand still moulded so that it fit.
I was the first to wake, 9:30 the clock read. Alex was gone he must be on watch. I got up and opened the door. he looked up at me and smile
"Can I go sleep now?" his voice filled with a joking kind of hope
"Go ahead!" I said it with a smile trying hard Not to laugh.
"Thanks." he said giggling.
I sat down and waited, still smiling like an idiot.
At about ten Holley woke up and came out to join me.
"So what happened last night?
"I'm not sure. we just started talking about the day it all happened, and I guess I just cracked." I finished and looked over at her.
"It's fine."
She said.
Spencer sat there awake, he looked up at me and smiled. "Hey." he said
"Hi"
"How do you feel?" he asked his smile falling only slightly.
"I'm fine. you?"
"Good"
"We have to go out there today." I said gesturing towards the door.
"I know. are you scared?"
"Ya, a little. Are you?
"Yep!" he smiled again and stood.
"HEY ALEX WAKE UP!!!" he screamed.
"Shut up! you'll wake the walkers!"
"Walkers eh..... I like it" he kicked Alex and this time bent down and said in a loud whisper, "get up bastard!!!!"
I rolled my eyes and walked out. ruby and Holley were still sitting there.
"Hey." I said as I started picking through the shelves,
"So Alex isn't getting up, is he?" Asked Holley with a smile on her face,
"You heard all that?"
"Yep! even the whispering..." Replied Ruby.
We all laughed and I continued picking through the shelves. I found battery's, hand held game things, a charger that ran on battery's, food that wasn't in a can but still didn't need to be refrigerated, and a lot more.
We set out at about noon, Alex staying behind with our other stuff and a walkie talkie I found.
"What do you see Alice?" he asked through the buzzing walkie talkie,
"I think I'm crazy,"
"Why is that?"
"I see dead people..." he burst out laughing, and so did the others.
"Nice one, what else do you see?" he said still laughing a little.
"Oh, you know the exact same thing we saw on our way in?"
"I guess."
"I'm out were gonna jump down." we were on the roof of the building, it was only a story drop but we still decided to take the ladder.
We crawled around the city, through sewers and short cuts that I had learned for 14 years of living here. Holley and Ruby on the other hand... they had never been here before!
We got to a department store and started to search for supplies."hey Alex, guess what we found!" the walkie talkie beeped and I waited in silence, no one else talking.
"I don't know... ummmm, an outlet mall?"
"Nope."
"Then I got nothing..."
"Department store!"
"Sweet!"
"Ya were just gonna pick through the place. get what we need then get out."
"Okay, bye!"
"We'll be back after. bye"
I hung up and we went through the store, grabbing books
And other things to keep us occupied, more food, but like the candy and treat kind of food.
We looked a little longer when I came to a shelf filled with dolls. creepy dolls.
I continued to walk studying each doll. then I saw one move. not just move but breath. it has to be human a zombie wouldn't be smart enough to hide there!
"Hello?" I said pulling out my gun,
"I don't want to hurt you!"
The "doll" stepped out, holding her hands in the air.
"Who....who are you?" she stuttered her voice filled with fear,
"My name is alice!"
"I'm Abby."
"Would you like to come with us Abby? we really need to go."
"O...okay"
She's just a little girl, and she would be a good friend for jase!
We all ran back to the store, sneaking past the zombies. it was surprisingly easy. they were so stupid. don't say anything, don't move to quickly, and NEVER smell good.
The smell of sweat, it smelled like them. they didn't notice us as easily.
when we got back to the store alex was supprised when he saw Abby trailing behind me.
"Looks like you attract the little kids!" he said as the other followed my in.
"I guess. this is Abby."
"Hi Abby, nice to meet you! I'll take first shift, I'm sure you'll need the rest."
"Thank you so much, your such a great friend!" I said as I went into the office.
At about 2 o'clock Alex came in looking so tired that he just dropped onto his blanket. I stood and woke spencer and he came with me.
We cried again, just like last night.
It all happened, just like last night.
My name is Alice Rouyn, I'm fourteen, and I, along with my friends survived the ninth day.
It reeks of death.
