Day 10

We woke up and decided to go early, to save daylight and make it with time to spare.

Getting out of the city was harder than getting in, they were laying down everywhere and you could never tell. if you made a sound a few would begin struggling to get up, we would hide in a room until they passed.

Dodging zombies, we came to the last building on the out skirts of town. out of the grass emerged 8. We were outnumbered.

They attacked, I hit one in the neck with my axe and the head came off in one clean blow. Holley speared one on her katana, pulling up it ripped through the neck and into the skull, blood pored everywhere.

I saw one in the corner of my eye, trembling below it was Abby! I turned and hit another in the head this time, taking a few seconds to pull it out.

I ran at it, knocking it over, the shear force of the axe as I fell hit it in the chest, going strait through.

It was pinned down so I got up and told Abby to move, I pulled out my knife and dropped to my knees, shoving the knife into its head, into its brain.

They finished off the rest, hitting there heads. Holley had one pinned and pulled out her gun, I called her back so she grabbed a rock and bashed its head in.

We kept on going, I kept a close eye on Abby as we walked. the highway was empty except for a few dead corps that we thought were dead.

We got back to the barn and radioed the others back at base,

"Were on schedule and should be home tomorrow."

"Home?" asked jase through the walkie,

"I mean the prison, it's the closest thing we've got. Were all really worn out, good night jase."

"Goodnight Alice."

I hung up and went to sit by Spencer, who was showing something to Abby.

"What ya got there?" I asked as I sat by him on the edge,

"I'm showing Abby my hand gun, don't worry the safety's on."

"I see, so what happened to you Abby?" I asked both me and spencer looking over at her.

"It's simple, my parents became one so I ran away."

"Wow, it was that easy?" asked spencer seeming dumbfounded.

"Pretty much!"

"Well, I think you should go to sleep." I said leaning over,

"Okay!"

She leaped up and walked over to where the others were sleeping.

"Hey, there's something I wanted to show you," he said as he stood up "come on." He lead me in behind some hay stacked up in a tall pile. in behind the pile was a ladder!

He started to climb the ladder, so I followed.

We emerged and were overwhelmed by the stars, shimmering in the night sky.

"It's beautiful!" I exclaim as he offers me a hand onto the roof.

" wow!" I say as I look down and see a blanket set down on the roof.

"Do you like it?" spencer asks as he walks over to the blanket,

"I love it!"

I walk over to sit next to him, the cool night air gives me goose bumps.

"The stars really are beautiful!" he says and sits with his feet over the edge,

"It's like the world isn't ending!"

We both laugh and just sit there, starring at the sky.

"Alice?" he asked, breaking the comfortable silence that had fallen.

"Yes?"

"Okay, I know this sounds crazy, and I know the world is ending, but I just can get you out of my head! it's like we've come so much closer since the apocalypse." he said, not even looking at me. "And...and I think I love you." he said, finally looking me in the eyes.

I had no idea how to respond. we just sat there, feet dangling over the edge, about a 3 inch gap between us. 2 inches. 1 inch. then we kissed. it was warm and comforting. once we pulled apart, I just laid my head on his should and starred out into the sea of stars.

We sat there for about an hour, just watching the sky. He laid back in the blanket he set out, trying to sleep. I was tired as well so I lay there with him. nothing else happened, we just sat there together, and fell asleep.

My name is Alice Rouyn, I'm fourteen, and I, along with my friends survived the tenth day.

The end is no longer approaching. Infact, it's retreating!
