It was like any normal day and I was playing xbox with my brothers while my sisters were drooling over famous actors. When I had woken up that day I knew something was gonna happen. As my brothers and I finished a game of Zombie Apocalypse, my parents came strolling down the stairs. I didn't like their expressions and got worried.
"Anshuman, Arush, Rahul, Prakash, and Kabir please go upstairs we need to speak to Raj." My mom said and sent my brothers away. I was now sitting across from my parents who had excitement I their eyes but strictness in their faces.
"Raj betee" my mom started.
"Your mother and I have found a girl for you" my dad said smiling. My palms got sweaty and I felt myself getting angry. I was young. I didn't want to settle down yet, I just left college two years ago and I haven't even started living my life yet!
"What? No! You can't do this to me!" I said sounding like a whining child who got his phone taken away.
"Raj, it's time you settle down. You haven't done anything for yourself since college, it's time to take responsibility in your life" my dad said sternly. He did have a point. I wasn't doing anything since college except going out every other day.
"But this is not fair!" I yelled slamming my hands down on the table making my parents jump.
"Raj!" My mom yelled.
"There is no question, you will settle down! That's final!" My dad shouted and got up going back upstairs.
"They are on their way here." My mom said and smiled at me. She got up and placed a piece of paper down on the table. I'm guessing it's for me, so I took it and flipped it over. It was a picture of a girl, I'm guessing the girl my parents want me to marry. She wasn't bad looking, in fact she was pretty. But I couldn't just settle down and start a life with a complete stranger! I was ready to put up a fight with my parents, ready to just let my anger take control. But the more I thought about it, I should just meet her. I was definitely telling her how I felt about this. I stomped up the stairs and into my bedroom, a white studded Kurta was laying on my bed. I groaned and angrily changed into the Kurta. As I was scrolling through my phone I heard the door bell ring. I jumped up out of bed and ran out of my bedroom to the stairs. Her parents gave hugs to mine and she stood with her hands folded saying Namaste to my brothers, sisters and parents. She was nervous. I knew that much. My parents led her and her parents to our backyard where a table with snacks and drinks were set up. I slowly walked outside and when everyone saw me it got quiet. Then her dad smiled at me.
"You must be Raj!" He said standing up and giving me a hug. I faked a convincing smile and the girl my parents wanted me to marry just kept staring at me.
"Ahaha, can't get your eyes off him?" Her mother said making her blush and look down at her feet smiling shyly.
"Raj, why don't you show Preeti around" my dad said. Preeti. Nice name. She stood up and I offered her my hand which she willingly took and we walked in the house. I stopped at the kitchen and looked at her smiling.
"I'm Raj" I said placing my hand in front of me.
"I'm Preeti" she said smiling and shaking my hand.
"Let's go" I said walking around the house and talking with her. When we reached the front of the house we sat on the steps in front of the door.
"Listen.." She said picking the fabric of her saree.
"Haan?" I said looking over at her.
"I wasn't too happy with this arranged marriage, but once talking with you... Your nice." She said looking at me with a small smile.
"Your not bad either, and I too wasn't happy with this" I said shrugging my shoulders but smiling.
"I fell in love, we planned to elope... But I caught him tied up in another girls arms... So I told my parents to find someone for me" she said with tears forming in her eyes.
"I've never been in love" I said sadly.
"Lucky, love hurts" she laughed out as a tear fell from her eyes. I felt bad. I felt like just hugging her and making the hurt she went through just disappear. I wasn't sure I wanted to get married to a stranger but now I felt like I had to and make Preeti's life a bit better.
"I accept" I said smiling warmly at her. She quickly wiped away the tears and smiled happily at me.
"Really?" She said smiling warmly and showing her big dimples.
"Really." I said nudging her chin. I stood up and helped her up, she gave me a small hug and we walked in the house out to the backyard. My parents and her parents heads shot up when they saw us.
"So?" My mom said with so much excitement in her voice.
"We accept"
