Ezra's P.O.V
"Lights out everyone!" I heard Hera say through the communicator. I let out a long yawn and headed to me and Zeb's shared room. The door slid open and revealed a sleeping lasat in his bed. I climbed the later and laid down feeling a wave of drowsiness sweep over me. I close my eyes and fell asleep.
*dream*
The darkness fades and I see that I'm in some kind of basement with blood on the walls. The floor was a hard cold cement and I was chained to the floor in the middle of the room. 'Oh no,' I thought realizing where I was. A creak of a door opening and light from upstairs comes into the dark basement. Footsteps come down the stairs and I start to freak out. 'No no no, not him!' I thought trying to get away from the shadow in front of me.
"It should be able to talk," the figure said, "why doesn't it not greet its master?". "You don't own me!" I yell at him and I could tell that he didn't like my answer. "Of course I do," he said and got his homemade gagged metal whip. "Say ouch it!" He said and raised the whip and brought it down.
*end of dream*
I woke up with a scream coming out of my mouth and breathed really hard feeling sweat drip down my face. I looked around and found myself still in the Ghost. I took a deep breath in and out to calm my nerves but I still felt myself shake. I quietly got out of my bed and made a beeline for the turret gun. I climbed the ladder and sat in the seat gazing at all the stars.
"Ezra?" A gentle voice spoke from below me. I looked down to see Hera standing there with a worried expression. "Are you ok?" She asked in her 'mother hen mode'. "I'm fine," I said softly gazing at the stars again. "Then why aren't you in bed?" She asked with hands on her hips and eyebrow raised. "Not tired," I responded getting a little annoyed with Hera. Our pilot let out a sigh, "If there is something wrong, you know where to find me," she said gently and walked off.
I sat there for a little longer and deciding if I should or not go see Hera. I kept debating for a while and finally made my decision. I climbed down the ladder and headed to the cockpit. My arms were crossed and my head was down. I walked into the cockpit and sat in the co-pilots seat. I saw Hera set the Ghost to auto-pilot and turn to face me. "Now tell me what's wrong," she said. I didn't look her in the eye, "I had a nightmare of my past". "What was you nightmare about?" She asked.
I didn't want to tell her this part. The part I wanted the crew to never find out that I used to be a slave. "I-I don't really w-want to talk about i-it," I said and looked at her with pleading eyes. "Ezra, if you get it off your shoulders right now then you might feel better," she said. I bit my lip and stayed silent. I felt a hand squeeze my knee to provide comfort. I looked up felt tears burning my eyes when questions came to mind. What if Hera thinks that I'm to useless? What if she told the crew and they think differently about me? What if they don't want me anymore?
That last question made me visibly flinch and Hera noticed my discomfort. She smiled and stood up, I watched her every movement to see what she was up to. She gestured for me to stand up and so I did. I was still looking at the floor while standing up. Then two arms wrapped around me in a loving embrace. "You can tell me or Kanan about whatever it is later," Hera said softly. I returned the hug and leaned into the motherly touch, it was warm, comforting, and..........safe.
"Thank you mom," I said and immediately regretted what I just called the Twi'lek. That was until she tightened the hug and whispered, "Your welcome my son". I smiled and got out of the embrace to see Hera smiling with tears in her eyes. A little bit of weight was lifted from my shoulders and I was in peace knowing that I had a mom again. "Alright, now off to bed we go," she said and walked to exit the cockpit.
I froze at the mention of going back to sleep. I didn't want to have another nightmare so I stayed in my spot. Hera must have noticed the lack of me moving and turned to face me. I could tell that she knew that I wasn't going to bed anytime soon. I thought that I saw a Hera's eyes sparkle and I knew that she had an idea. "How about you come and sleep with me tonight," she said. "No no, I'll be fine really," I said not wanting to be treated like a baby. Even though deep down, I really wanted to.
"Ezra, sometimes if you sleep with someone you know that you can trust, then the better chance of not having a single nightmare," Hera said in a promising tone. "I'll be fine Hera," I reassured her. "I wasn't giving you a choice, hun," she said slyly and grabbed my shoulders, guiding me to her room.
We went into her room and she took her gear off. I stood to the side with my arms crossed. Hera climbed into bed and made room for me. She patted the space next to her and I reluctantly went over. I laid down in the bed and turned my back to Hera. "Goodnight Ezra," Hera cooed. "Night," I said and asked, "don't you think this is a bit weird though". "Not at all," she said and I felt her comb her fingers through my hair. I loved the touch and couldn't help the smile that was forming on my face.
I was about to fall asleep when I felt Hera's hand move away. I was a little disappointed until I felt someone kiss the back of my head. Then I heard Hera whisper softly into my ear, "goodnight my beautiful boy". I smiled and felt a tear roll down my face, a tear of joy. "Goodnight mom," I said and fell asleep wrapped in Hera's arms.
