I was finally released from the hospital after a few days of close observation.

Mom still had no idea why they had classified my beating as a hate crime and I preferred it to be that way. Dad on the other hand sort of made me feel guilty for not talking to him about how I was feeling.

“When you’re ready to talk, I’ll be here.” His voice echoed in my mind as I thought back to what he had said.

Great, dad knows so it wouldn’t take mom that long to figure out.

Abby carried my bags to the front door. I struggled to find the right key that would give us access to my apartment.

I tried to be strong but the pain clearly showed on my face. Abby put down my bags.

“Here, let me help you.” She said reaching for the keys.

“I’ve got it.” my voice sounded irritated.

Abby pulled back her hand, looking at me like I sort of lost it.

“I’m sorry, Abby; I’m just not use to relaying on people.” I stated giving her my puppy face.

“It’s okay, I guess I understand.” She was now smiling at my ridiculous face.

The door swung open causing me to draw my attention away from the keys. Two beautiful green eyes were looking at me.

“Alex?” I asked shocked.

The hurt from what happened a few days ago still showed. I felt bad for treating her like she meant nothing to me when in reality she meant so much. I just couldn’t tell my parents, I couldn’t. I somehow felt that telling them this would make me a huge disappointment to them, and I wasn’t sure if that was something I could live with.

“You’re still here?” I asked sounding very happy.

“Why, were you expecting me to leave?” Alex’s voice was cold; she obviously misread the meaning behind what I had said.

“Well, yes… after I told my parents that you were only my roommate, you seemed pretty upset. I just figured when I got home you wouldn’t be here anymore.”

“In that case let me grab my things.” Alex said; once again misreading what I had said.

“I don’t want you to leave, Alex.” I almost yelled but she was now ignoring me.

Abby put the bags down in the lounge.

“I’m gonna take off.” She said.

“Looks like you two have some things to talk about.”

I looked back as Abby hurried back to her car, then I turned my attention to Alex who was scurrying around my apartment gathering her things.

“Alex, stop!” I commanded, but she carried on.

“Alex…”

I moved right into her way she almost bumped into me.

“What?” She said, her voice just below a scream.

I grabbed her face between my hands and pulled her face towards mine.

Her lips crushed into mine. It hurt at first but soon pleasure took over the pain. I pulled back, gasping for air.

“I don’t want you to go.” I said once I knew I had her attention.

“You are a stubborn woman.” I continued.

“You sure made it sound like you didn’t want me here.”

“I know, but you misread what I was saying.” The corners of my mouth turned upwards into a smile.
