Chapter Six - A.s.s.u.m.e. ASSUME.
"How was school, Honey?" Mom asked me as I kissed her on the cheek from behind her walking into the kitchen to grab a water bottle from in the fridge and walking back to her.
"Peachey." I replied guzzling on the water. How lady-like. Not.
"You make any friends?" She asked me while flipping through a Vogue magazine.
"Mm...Hmm." I replied back, while still drinking out of the water bottle.
"What was that, honey? I didn't hear you properly." She asked this time looking up at me.
"Yeah, I did. How was yours?" I said wiping my mouth with the back of my hand, and tossing the empty bottle into the bin.
She put the magazine down on the table circling something on her notepad. "My day was great, honey. Thanks for asking." She said.
"No problem." I said, making my way past her stealthily. Before she could pepper me questions to why I was covering my face with my hair. I was going for the Grudge look. I ran up to my bedroom kicking the door behind me closed jumping on my bed lying on my stomach for a couple of minutes. After I finished clearing my head of Angel Face, I rolled onto my back I gazed at the clock near my head on my bedside table.
"Kat mom wants-" Mel stopped talking and saw my face.
"Sorry, bad time." She mumbled closing the door letting it click softly.
I stood up flattening any wrinkles on my bed from jumping on it then opened my door walking to Mels' room to find out what mom wanted.
I knocked on her door pushing it open and saw Mel standing in front of her closet with a dress in both hands weighing her options, she turned her head and gave me a small smile.
"You alright?" She asked looking back at the dresses still deciding as I sat on her bed.
"Yeah." I said, she looked at me for a second and then back at the dresses in hand shaking her head and putting them back in her closet.
"No, I meant is your face-"She was cut off by Dustin who walked in the room.
"I was waiting for you at school! Where wer.." He stopped talking and walked closer to me staring at my face. "What's up with your face? Did you get into another fight? Has mom seen you yet?" He asked me shaking his head already deciding the answer before I answered.
"What? You told me to find my own way home, so I caught a ride home with a friend. Stupid head." Ignoring the questions he just asked me, muttering the last part, hoping that he heard my insult whilst also hoping he didn't.
"Friend? What friend? Is he a-" I shushed him by putting my hand up telling him to stop talking, rubbing my temple.
"Yes a friend. And it's a girl not a gu-" This time he shushed me by mimicking my hand movement.
"Is her name Raven DeRaunt?" He asked with a curious look on his face. Mels eyes turned into golf balls at the sound of Ravens' name.
Mel squealed pushing Dustin to the side, as far as her 5ft7 small build could let her against a Jock. "Raven DeRaunt as Lakewood Highs Bad girl, who hangs out with those Angel Faced hunker doodles! OMG! OMG! OMG!"
"Is it true?! That you're going out with Alec Knox? Is it? Is it?" Mel asked me excitedly holding my hands tightly with pleading eyes not letting go till she got an answer. I caught Dustin, freeze when Mel said 'Angel Faces' name catching him squeezing his fists making his knuckles turn white. Weird, very weird.
