"What's that mummy?"
"mmm?"
"MUMMY!"
Cynthia looked down at Julian. His little face looked hurt and confused.
"Oh sorry sweetheart," she said, giving him a soft kiss on his head, "I was reading this letter. It's very important."
"Why?"
She sat next to her son then placed the letter in front of him so he could see it. Even though Cynthia knew he wouldn't be able to read all the words in it, she felt it was important he saw it.
"It's a letter from Daddy," she began gently.
"My Daddy?"
"Yes Sweetie." She paused and pointed to where John's name was. "See this is Daddy asking to take ypu out.He wants to come and see you and maybe take you out somewhere nice."
He looked warily at his mother. "Will you come with me?"
Cynthia hid her concern, "I don't think so darling. Daddy and I aren't friends anymore." She forced a bright smile. "Anyway Daddy wants to spend time with just you. You haven't seen each other for ages. It will be special for you both."
Cynthia looked into the blue eyes staring at her, absorbing the information.
"No!" Julian whispered, "No."
"No?"
"I don't want to see daddy without you! Why can't you and daddy be friends again? Why can't we live back in our own house all together!!!!"
Julian ran from the room crying. Cynthia placed her head in her hands in despair. Once more she rued the day John Lennon had destroyed her son's life. Getting up slowly, she wiped her eyes before going upstairs to comfort her son.
