Dear Daddy,
Today I watched mummy open a letter. When she read it, she cried, lots and lots of tears. It scared me. Mummy's aren't supposed to cry are they? She's had a sad face for a long time but she's never cried before. I gave Mummy a big hug like you used to do when I fell over. I kissed her tears like you used to do. I asked her what was wrong. She said the letter was from you Daddy. She said you don't want to be married to Mummy any more. She said you don't love her anymore and that you love someone else. Why Daddy? When Mummy loves you. She told me she did. I thought Mummy's and Daddy's always loved each other forever. I know I will love my Mummy and Daddy for ever. If you don't love Mummy anymore, do you still love me Daddy? Because I still love you Daddy.
I'm scared Daddy. Our house is different now. I don't like it. All your things have gone and my things and mummy's things are in boxes. Mummy said we're going to live in a new house. I don't want a new house. I like my old house. How will you know where to come and see me if I don't live here anymore? Do you still want to come and see me Daddy because I still want to see you?
Uncle Paul came to visit me and Mummy yesterday. I was glad he came. He gave Mummy a pretty red flower and made her laugh. I like it when Mummy laughs. It's a nice, happy sound. Mummy doesn't laugh very much anymore Daddy. Uncle Paul played games with me and then sat me on his knee when he played the piano and sang to me. He said the song he was writing was about me and Mummy being sad. It made Mummy cry again so Uncle Paul kissed her and gave her a hug. She smiled then. Mummy has such a pretty smile. I really like Uncle Paul but Mummy said you and him aren't friends anymore. That's really sad Daddy. You always told me stories about when you and Uncle Paul were big boys. You said you were best friends and that best friends never ever break friends. Why have you broken friends with Uncle Paul Daddy? I hope Uncle Paul never breaks friends with me and Mummy.
Mummy says it's my bedtime now so I have to stop. I'm going to be a big boy and post this letter to you at the big red postbox in the morning. Mummy said she'll write your house on the envelope so that the postman knows where to take it to. I hope he brings me a letter from you too Daddy.
I love you Daddy. I love you very much.
Julian.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and a big hug too. I miss your hugs Daddy.
