James's POV
Riley was fast asleep on my chest, which had given me time to text Piper. The doctors had told me they were happy with Riley's attitude, and health, and stuff, and that I could bring in Finn. I hadn't told her that, I wanted it to be a surprise. She hasn't mentioned him at all, but she probably thinks Alfie dumped him somewhere or something, seeing as he just took the child from her. She hasn't spoken much about any of it really, I can understand though, she probably doesn't want to relive it. I got a text, saying Piper was here, and smiled, glancing at Riley. We had been sitting on the bed together talking, and she'd wound up falling asleep on me, as I leaned against the headboard. It reminded me of before she was taken. It was nice. When Piper got to the room, she hesitated, looking at Riley. Nothing necessarily looked wrong with her, but knowing what Alfie did, hearing him say it, it makes you look at Riley differently. She's not the same as she was before, and she probably never will be. Stuff like that, you just don't ever fully recover from it. "Just put him beside the bed, I want to surprise her when she wakes up." I told Piper. She nodded, setting the carrier beside me on the ground. I looked in it. Finn was fast asleep, looking as cute as ever. Piper readjusted to standing, and hesitated slightly.
"C-can I stay?" She asked hesitantly.
"Of course. Riley probably will be happy to see you." I told her. She smiled, sitting in a chair by the bed. I felt Riley's head move, and she groaned slightly, adjusting herself so she wasn't leaning on me anymore. She opened her eyes, squinting at first, before spotting Piper. A smile fell on her face, and for a second, I saw the spark return to her eyes.
"Hey." She said, sitting up. Piper smiled at her, cautiously. It was obvious that she didn't know exactly what to do. So, she waved.
"Ri." I said, getting her attention. "I have someone special here to see you. He wants to say hi." I told her. Her brows knitted together in confusion, and I shifted, getting a good grip on the carrier Finley was in, before lifting it off the ground. When I placed on the bed, Riley's eyes widened. "Riley, this is Finley Jay Brennan." I told her. She stared soundlessly at the sleeping baby inside the carrier. Tears filled her eyes, and very slowly began to run down her face. She let out a half whimper, half sob, shaking.
"Oh god." She said, staring at him. "Oh god!" She exclaimed, wiping away her tears. She grabbed Finn out of the carrier, cradling him gently. "Hi buddy. Hi. I'm your mama, do you remember me?" She spoke, her voice shaking as tears of joy ran down her face. Finley shifted in her arms, and opened his eyes to stare up at her. It was probably a reflex, or maybe even my imagination, but I swear I saw him smile at Riley. A gurgle type noise came from Finley, before he reached towards Riley chest, mouth wide. "C-can I feed him?" She asked, cautiously. I shrugged.
"Sure." I responded, and Riley shifted. Finn latched on right away, making Riley smile. I looked up to say something to Piper, but noticed she was gone. I felt my phone buzz, revealing a message from Piper.
Wanted to give you some family time.
I smiled, looking back to Riley and Finn. Things are looking up.
