I walked into my childhood bedroom and dropped my bags onto my bed. I walked over to my bedroom windows that overlooked the cow pastures. I pulled up the blinds and pushed open the window letting fresh air rush in. I looked out to see a man on a horse wrangling up our cows. I watch as he puts a hand on his hat and halls ass on the horse to get a stray cow, he pulls out a lasso and grabs the cow and pulls him back to the main herd. The whole thing was pretty impressive. I had no idea that my mom hired a ranch hand to help out. I would definitely have to meet this man. I smiled and walked away from the window and unpacked my bag for the week.

I went downstairs and joined my family for dinner. I looked around at my two brothers and mom who were already sitting and eating their dinner.
" so you hired a ranch hand" I asked looking at my mom. " Well not really he just saw that I was struggling one day and he came over to help. I am so embarrassed, working full time and the boys it has been tough having someone see me struggle." she said and put her hands on her face. " but he a very nice boy and he has taken such a load off me, I was contemplating selling the heard before he came along". she said poking at the chicken on her plate. "Mom why didn't you tell me you needed help" I reached over and put my hand on top of hers. "It's not my place to pull you from school honey" she said with sorrowful eyes "I know that you would have immediately left school to be on the farm full time" I nodded my head knowing she was right.
"Don't forget mommy I have a play date tomorrow" Will yelled pulling mom and I out of our conversation. She nodded "yes I didn't forget but your sister Katie will take you tomorrow because I have to be in town early for work."

I wake up to the creek of my door opening I look over at it and see my little brother jimmy sneaking in. "Katie can you make me breakfast cause mommy isn't home and neither is jimmy " he said
I rolled out of bed and we walked downstairs " I have a play date today" my littlest brother Will told me " yes you do" I said patting his head. " did you know that she is in my class" he said " ooh and is it at their house or ours" I asked " their house" he said I gave him a bowl of fruit loops and some fruit "Eat up and then we will get house dressed and head over" I said as I ran up and got changed out of my pjs. I put on a pair of shorts, a sweatshirt and a pair of muck boots. I quickly ran down to the barn fed the animals. I quickly put the horses out to pasture and ran back inside to check on Will.
I came back inside and looked on the refrigerator to find the little girls address. But it wasn't there " Will, where does your friend live" " a couple houses up we can walk" he said " oh ok" I said I grabbed my brother a sweatshirt. We walked out of the garage and started our walk to his friends house. He help my hand dragging me up the road and we turned down a driveway.
"Ok wait now do I stay with you or do I come back home" I asked because I've never taken someone to a play date " you stay" he said "Do I just hang out with your friends mom" I asked him. He shook his head "her brother is here" he said as we reached their front door. I reached out and knocked on it. We stood there waiting for them to open the door. My phone buzzed so I pulled it out to reply to my mom's message. The door opened up I looked over my phone to see a little girl standing in the doorway. " Will" I heard from a little girl I looked up and there was Lilly from the rodeo. " Katie" she yelled and pulled the door all the way open. " wait you know her" I asked as we stepped inside. I saw Luke come down the stairs, " Lilly what did I tell you about opening the....... Katie?" He stopped half way down the steps and looked at me stunned., I smiled happy to see him. He continued down the steps as he pulled his tee shirt all the way on. " apparently our siblings know each other" I said He chuckled " come on in" he said gesturing us further into his house" I was just heading out to the barn" he said looking down at my muck boots" good you can help" he said with a smirk. He walked through his house and I followed as Lilly and Will went up the steps to play. " how's you leg" he asked looking down at my thigh. The blueish purple bruise very prominent now. " much better thank you" I said " liar" he smirked " it's good I swear" I said as we walked out his back door down to the barn. "It is all your horses fault though" I said gesturing to smoky the horse who was in his stall " so you got any horses at your house" he asked I nodded my head "Ooh you have cows" I squealed seeing a heard in the back pasture "I just look after this herd so not mine but we need to go feed them" he said as he grabbed a bag of cattle feed and slipped under the fence I stop there not knowing is he wanted me to follow. He turned around walking backward " well you comin " he grinned I slipped under as well and ran to catch up with him. We walked in silence as he carried the large feed bag on his shoulder. His tanned muscles glistening with sweat. I shook my head trying to stop eye fucking this man. " you working this weekend" I asked breaking the silence. He looked at me curiously not understanding what I was saying. " bull riding" I said "will you be at the rodeo, is that not your job" I asked " oh come on it's not a job, I love doing it" he said "I mean I work for the rodeo during the week but I'm a paid athlete at this point" he said dumping the bag of feed into a trough. " you didn't answer my question though" I said leaning against the fence. " yes I'll be there this weekend why?" He questioned me " the girls at school want to go again and I don't think I'd mind going again" I said biting my lip. " good then we can hang out" he said I blushed He put his hand on my lower back and pointed down the hill at a fresh born calf. " looks like Bessie the cow had her baby finally. Wanna go see her" " yes!!" I said jumping up and down. He winked and me and started to walk towards her. I rolled my eyes and ran after him.
