•Brinley's POV•

My head is spinning as I see Derek staring at me with anger, confusion, and a whole lot of hurt written on his face.

I push Justin back and I slowly shake my head; keeping my eyes on Derek.

"It was just a hug. We were just talking Derek it's nothing I swear."

"I know." He says quietly and looks over at Justin before he walks towards me. I notice both of them glaring at each other before Derek stands in front of him. Justin raises his eyebrow as Derek looks intimidating. I'm not taking sides but Derek's anger and strength is nothing compared to Justin's.

"You don't have to stare. I'm always willing to take pictures with my fans." Justin says and I can hear the sarcasm dripping from his words as he gives Derek a devious smile.

"I'm only going to tell you this once because I don't want any trouble. Keep your fucking hands off my girl. You guys broke up because you fucked up superstar. Get the fuck over it."

Justin's eyes narrow as he stares at Derek before he glances over at me.

"Your girl, huh?"

"Did I stutter?"

Justin's eyes snap back to Derek before he takes a deep breath and steps back shaking his head.

"Right, your girl. I'm sorry, I'll respect the boundaries."

I raise my eyebrow at Justin's words as he leans down and grabs my bag for me, holding it out to Derek. He glances at me once more and I try to read him but I can't.

"Have fun on the rest of the trip. I won't bother you again. It was nice seeing you, I'm really glad you're doing well Brinley."

I frown as he used my full name.

He's the one person that never does.

Yet I'm still confused as to why his mood changed so quickly.

I don't say anything because I don't have the chance to as Derek leads me out of the room.

He walks down the hall and stops at the room he's staying in and I follow him inside, my mind still on Justin.

"He's such a dick. Man I wish he would've tried something so I could've beat his ass. Although his security guards would've probably killed me before I could even touch him."

I glance at him as he speaks before I walk into the kitchen area and look through the cabinets for the cups.

"He's protective."

"What?" Derek asks and I could feel his eyes on me as I continue to look around for the cups.

"He's not just cocky and angry like you think. Justin's always had a good protective instinct and if he feels someone is a threat to someone or something he loves, he takes care of it. He's strong, he can hold his own without his bodyguards interfering."

"Are you trying to defend him?"

I finally find a cup as I walk to the sink and fill it with water before I turn around and lean against the counter as I stare at Derek.

"No. There's a fine line between defending him and telling the truth. He's a fighter Derek, he's always been one. He's not afraid of anyone. He will take a swing if he feels you're a threat. That's who he is, that's who he's always been."

He stares at me before he looks away and I notice him actually taking my words into consideration. I take a sip of my water as I wait for him to say something.
