Charles and I were returning to the office, his eyes were bloodshot from exhaustion.
"Take the day off tomorrow." I spoke up suddenly.
"What?"
"Take the day off, you're going to be ill." I turned to look at him.
"I'm fine!" Charles protested.
"No you're not, your fingers are shaking, your eyes are bloodshot, and you keep rubbing your temple, but not the one closest to me because you don't want me to see you're feeling ill." I explained.
"You're spending too much time with Sherlock." He sighed and stretched.
"Maybe.." I chuckled. I peered out the window at the city, the streets were quite busy this evening. The taxi pulled over at the Scotland Yard.
"I'll pay." I cut Charles off and handed the money to the cabbie.
"Y/N! I'm not helpless I can pay for a taxi." Charles groaned, he stood up and walked towards the Scotland Yard.
"No, you're going home, I'll let Lestrade know." I pointed towards the taxi. "You can pay for your trip home." I smiled tightly.
"Oh... Fine.." Charles glared but sighed. "Sorry I'm being such a pain,
I feel like my heads going to explode.." Charles groans. I chuckled and nodded.
"I understand." I smiled and walked down the street. I stepped inside of a fancy restaurant.
"Y/N!" Kira greeted me happily. I hugged her.
"It's so good to see you!" I smiled and stood by her side waiting for a table.
"How have you and Sherlock been?" Kira shot me a curious glance.
"Great! What about you and the baby?" I turned to her.
"Oh we've been busy. I mean we're moving to America soon so.. You know..." Kira looked forward awkwardly, a dull pain swarmed my chest. She was one of my only friends who I spent time with, that wasn't tied to Sherlock.
"Right this way ladies!" A handsome male waiter stepped forward.
"Thank you." I muttered awkwardly as we ventured to a booth on the far side of the restaurant.
"Could I start you off with some drinks?" He asked.
"A glass of red wine for me." I smiled.
"I'll have a beer, thank you." Kira nodded. I chuckled and looked at her.
"A beer, that's a bit different.." I commented sitting back examining the menu.
"Tonight's different.." She replied. I winced and looked up at her.
"Can it not be..?" I gazed seriously at her.
"What?"
"Can it not be different.. I just want to enjoy my last night with my friend like any other night.. I don't want to remember it with tears, I want to remember this night as the time I had supper with you..." I spoke softly. Kira stared at me and smiled sadly.
"Of course, that sounds much better.." She whispered and smiled.
"So any plans for what you're eating?" I changed the subject.
"Um probably the smoked salmon!" She grinned, she got that every time.
"Surprise surprise!" I teased and looked over the menu.
"I'll probably have the (F/Meal).." I drug my finger across the letters which were neatly printed underneath the plastic sheet.
"That sounds good!" Kira chuckled and sat back.
"Here you are!" The waiter returned with our drinks. We both thanked him and clinked our glasses together.
"To our futures!" I laughed.
"To our destinies!" Kira said in the most cheesy voice, we both burst out laughing and couldn't stop.
"O-oh...gosh I... I can't breathe!" Kira cried between laughter.
"N-neither can I!" I laughed and smiled at her.
"Hello again! Are you ready to order now?" The waiter returned, so we did our best to swallow our laughter and order.
"Yes I'll have the smoked slamon.. Salmon.. I'm sorry that was weird." Kira slipped up her words, I smirked at her and chuckled.
'Good job' I mouthed to her. She shot me a glare but bit back a laugh.
"I'll have the (F/M)!" I turned the the waiter and smiled.
"Alright! Great choices!" He smiled at both of us and took off, he had a very exciting positive energy. I took a sip of my wine and laughed.
"Oh gosh everyone probably thinks we're crazy.." I leaned forward to say it quietly.
"Ah who cares! We probably are." Kira smirked and laughed too.
"Yeah we probably are.." I smiled. Kira took a swig of beer and sighed looking around. I noticed the tears in her eyes.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"It's just starting to settle in that this won't be my home anymore.." Kira wiped the tears away.
"Hey, it'll always be home, as long as you want it to be home." I put my hand on hers.
"I'm sorry I'm crying, it's.. Its pathetic isn't it?" She inhaled trying to keep from crying.
"No.. It's normal.. Don't worry.." I smiled sadly at her.
"Okay.. Hey remember how we first met in that corner store?" Kira asked.
"Yeah.." I chuckled.
"That was a pretty crazy time!" She laughed.
"It was!" I felt my emotions battling each other, I was going to lose her.
"Your food ladies!" The waiter was back again, he put our plates down with a smile. "Enjoy!" He waved and took off to his other table.
"This looks delicious!" Kira looked excited like a little kid who had just been given cake.
"Don't get too excited." I grinned at her and began to eat.
"Ah hush!" She waved me off with her hand and began to eat. We reminisced and ate for what might have been an eternity, even though it didn't feel like long enough. In the back of my mind, I couldn't stop thinking about how tomorrow I'd wake up and know I wouldn't be able to see my closest friend for a very long time. The pain remained with me throughout everything, but I knew she had to do it. She wasn't happy in London, she needed a better life.. She deserved a better life. I looked down and realized my plate was empty.. Dinner was over. I slowly drew my napkin and wiped my mouth, laughing at a joke that Kira made, she felt the struggle to stay as long as we could now too. She didn't want this dinner to end. Neither did I... The bill landed on our table.
"It's on me." I smiled at her.
"No no, don't do that, I'm the one taking off!" Kira tried to snatch it from me but I was quicker.
"I will pay." I insisted and put the money down and stood up, but all I wanted to do was order another round of food, just so we didn't have to leave.
"Fine." Kira drew out her fine and stood up. We both walked slowly towards the door, and out onto the sidewalk.. This was it..
"I.. I don't know how to say goodbye.." Kira whispered, her voice trembling.
"Goodbye sounds so.. Terminal..." I commented, turning to her.
"Maybe it is.." She wrapped her arms around me, pulling me into a friendly hug. I hugged her back tightly.
"I'm going to miss you.." I whispered.
"I'll miss you too..." Kira cried, I felt her tears hitting the back of my jacket, like broken raindrops. I felt a tear slip down my cheek.
"This won't be the last time we see each other.. I promise!" I stepped back looking her in the eye.
"Yeah.. Okay.." She smiled sadly.
"I love you!" Of course I meant it in the friend way, I loved her, like she was family.
"Love you too.." She hugged me once more and turned away, she seemed to just want to be alone.
"Bye.." She waved slowly..
"Bye bye.." I waved back.. I turned and walked the other way, my heart felt like it had taken a hit from a sledgehammer, I walked all the way home to the flat, it was silent, and empty.. Sherlock was sleeping. I stepped into our room and just threw myself onto the bed, I let the tears flow, I cried silently into the sheets. Sherlock's arms eventually wrapped protectively around me.
"It's okay.." He whispered, and we laid there in silence. I drifted off at one point, into a deep slumber.
Morning came, and Sherlock was gone, which was odd because he always woke up after me. I got up and stumbled out to the kitchen, the phone blaring it's horrible rings, which pierced my skull. I ripped it off of its perch and answered it.
"Hello?" I grumbled.
"Sh..Sherlock.." I heard John's terrified voice on the other end.
"John? What's going on, what's wrong?" Panic sped through me like a bolt of lightning.
"The..The hospital.. He-" A sob "He... Y/N I'm so sorry... He jumped.." John finished.
The phone clattered on the floor.
