"The Mechanic"

Chapter Nineteen

'Control.'

Scene...

The Next Morning

Demi's POV

It had been three days since the last time I encountered Wilmer.

Three days since he hurt me again.

Two days since he'd left me that letter inviting me to Milan.

Two days since I crumbled up that letter and forced him out of my mind.

Over the course of these days, my phone had been ringing endlessly with his calls. Each of his voicemails grew angrier; each of his text messages extended in length. All of them went ignored.

Until this moment.

I sat at my dining room table, my phone lying beside my cup of coffee. There was so much courage I had to muster up to make this call that I'd almost had to day-drink to make it happen. I needed Ariana there with me to be my voice of reason. I needed her to keep me from falling into Wilmer's games all over again.

So I went and grabbed my laptop, setting it before me as well. Once opening it, I opted to FaceTime Ari from it, so that she could listen in on my call with Wilmer.

Thank God she answered.

"I sure hope you're calling me this early to tell me that your hot mechanic spent the night with you," she started with right away. I cracked a smile at her, instantly feeling the slightest bit relieved at the sight of her.

"I'm sure you'd like that," I chuckled back. "Where are you?"

"In my bed, where do you think?! It's so early." I raised my eyebrows in surprise.

"Wait, you're still in town?"

"Yeah, mom thought we should sleep in a bit more before the drive. Thanks for ruining that, by the way," she answered, sticking her tongue out at me. I sighed then, deciding to get serious.
