Demi's POV
"Mm..," I mumbled, my head leaned cozily against my pillow. Something was rousing me from my slumber, but I continued ignoring it, and repeatedly fell asleep.
The sensation continued to wake me, but I kept my eyes closed, sure that I was dreaming. The gracious touch made circles around my cheekbones, slid up to my ear, and then through my hair. It was such a comfortable feeling that sent me into a blissful loop.
I sighed at the sweetness of the sensation as it woke me over and over, until finally I realized.
I wasn't dreaming.
Someone was touching me.
"Hi dear," I heard, and at the sound of his voice, I jumped, gasped, and I was fully awake. Hurriedly, I sat up, and scooted back until he was no longer touching me.
"W-wilmer," I said, clutching my blankets to my chest. "You're home?"
"I missed you too much to stay away," he replied. "I caught the first flight out."
My heart was racing. I glanced over at my phone on my nightstand before looking back up at Wilmer, who was still standing at my bedside. He clearly looked like he had a bit too much to drink on that flight; the smell of his breath carried over to me even from his distance.
"I-I um, I wasn't expecting you back so soon," I managed to get out. Wilmer scrunched his eyebrows at me, his drunken smile dropping.
"You're afraid of me..," He observed. His expression saddened even more as his eyes roamed over my body language. I was further from him, still holding my blankets as if they were some sort of shield. "Have I . . . have I made you afraid of me?"
My hands were shaking with petrifying fear.
"Will," I whispered so quietly he'd almost missed it. My eyes kept darting over to my phone.
"No," he said, turning away. "No, I can't- I can't have ruined this." Each time he turned away, I moved nearer to it, planning to call Joe the second I got my hands on the device. "Demi, you can't leave."
I froze.
No. There's no way he could've known.
"I never said I was going anywhere," I reassured, and when he turned back to me, I snatched my hand back beneath the sheets so that he wouldn't see me reaching out.
"Look at you, Dem," he began hyperventilating, almost in a panic. "You don't ever look at me like this. Like I'm- like I'm some kind of monster."
I stared into his eyes, and realized that he was on the verge of tears. I thought quickly about Ariana's warning; about how I needed to keep Wilmer happy in order to stay safe. To do this, I knew I had to lie.
