"The Mechanic"

Chapter Eighteen

'Feelings.'

Demi's POV

"You were totally downplaying how incredibly sexy that mechanic is," Ariana gushed as we got into my car.

I laughed at that comment, in all of its accuracy, but I couldn't focus too heavily on Ariana. Not only was I just a bit frustrated by the way she came off when she spoke to Joe, but I was also distracted by the fact that I finally had my precious Lambo back. Still, I tried to keep her talking so that I wouldn't have to.

"Yeah, Joe's pretty handsome," I said as I started up my car and basked in its purr.

"'Pretty handsome?' Demi the guy's a walking, talking, Calvin Klein print ad covered in strawberries and chocolate syrup! I've never seen a real human being that was so damn attractive."

"Then why don't you date him?" I said with a hint of sass

"Then why don't you date him?" I said with a hint of sass.

"Whoa, what up with the tension?" She threw her hands up in defense. I put my car in reverse, and pulled out of the lot, frustrated that I now had to address something that I didn't initially want to.

"You didn't have to say all of that stuff to him, Ari," I muttered, trying to seem distracted by my driving.

"Oh, so you're embarrassed?"

"I mean, yeah!" I said, pulling up to a stop sign. "Joe is my friend, my new friend. I already put so many obligations on him and we just met less than two weeks ago."

"Demi," Ari began, even though she knew I wasn't done with my rant. "Why are you pretending like you don't have feelings for him? It's so obvious it hurts!"

"I don't have feelings for Joe," I said, confidently.

"Bullshit!" She yelled. I glanced into my rearview mirror, and realized that cars were beginning to line up behind me. Sighing, I began driving again.

"Ariana," I said sternly, keeping my eyes on the road. "Even if I do have feelings for Joe, I can't. Okay? It's not right. Not as long as I'm-,"

"Wilmer cannot be your excuse anymore, Demi," Ari interrupted, predicting my words. I rolled my eyes, but she continued talking. "Joe cares about you. Why can't you see that? He didn't even put up a fight when I asked him to come back to the house and clean. Why do you think that is, Dem? You think he's only coming over because he likes cleaning?"

"He's just a nice guy!" I argued, but Ari waved her hand.
