Chapter Twenty
Forks
Alice

As Tom promised, we were on the road to Forks in his pickup by eight o'clock the next morning. Half an hour later, he pulled over on a dirt road so I could throw up.

"Now I know why people complain so much about morning sickness." I sighed, getting comfortable in my seat again.

"Yeah, its awful!" Tom gaged. "You're only what? A week pregnant?" He asked.

"Four days." I sighed.

"Is it even normal to be sick already? Or have a bump?" He asked.

"It's noticeable?" I asked looked down at my slight bump.

"For you, yeah. You've always been skin and bones and suddenly your stomach pokes out, it's noticeable you're pregnant." He chuckled.

"Will everyone else notice too?" I asked worriedly.

"Probably not, they don't know you like I do. Plus they smelled you when you were already pregnant so your scent hasn't changed which is good." Tom explained.

"My scents changed?" I asked, a little weirded out.

"Just slightly. It's your hormones changing." Tom explained and noticed my grimace. "It's a wolf smell thing." He shrugged.

We made it to La Push in a little over three hours. It was weird being back in Forks, my hometown, it was different from what I remembered, much more green.

Tom pulled up to a small house and stopped the truck. We both got out as the front door opened and revealed a middle aged native American man.

"Tom?" He called out.

"Hey Billy!" Tom called out happily and Billy, along with two other men raced out to pounce on Tom affectionately.

They howled and punched and jostled him for a bit before stopping and turning to me.

"So, you're Alice?" Billy questioned, looking down at me disapprovingly, his dark eyes filled with an ancient power.

"Um, yeah, yes, I am." I nodded, a little confused.

"Sorry about taking a bite out of you." He chuckled and the other two men snickered along with him.

"It's alright, it's almost healed." I gestured towards my bandaged arm.

"Your little blood sucker doctor fix you up?" Billy asked.

"Yes, Carlisle did actually." I nodded, still finding the need to defend them for some reason.

"Oooo, Carlisle!" One of the other men feigned fear, mocking me.

"Cut it out Harry, you too Quil." Tom barked at them. "Leave Alice alone. She's my best friend."

"Fine, we won't mess with her anymore." Billy laughed then looked towards the house where a little boy stood in the doorway. "Jacob, come here." He motioned for the little boy to come to him.

The small Native American boy ran happily towards us and bounded right up to me. He was only two feet shorter than me, my height being so small, and he surprised me by smiling at me so brightly.

"Hi. I'm Jacob." He introduced himself.

"Hello Jacob, I'm Alice." I smiled down at him.

"I'm five." He announced proudly, pointing at his chest.

"Oh you are?" I giggled. "That's a very good age to be." I smiled happily down at him.

"Jacob, why don't you take Tommie and Alice to see Grandma Bonnie?" Billy asked him and Jacob nodded his head happily.

"Follow me." He smiled at us happily and started walking off towards a trail in the woods nearby.

"So Jacob, is Billy your dad?" I asked and he nodded.

"Yep, and my sisters Becca and Rachel's dad too." He smiled and I giggled.

"Rebecca and Rachel are twins, they're nine." Tom told me. "Jacobs mother is Sara Black, she's a really sweet woman, you'll like her a lot. You're actually a lot a like." He chuckled as we neared a small hut-like house.

"I've got to go home, see you later Tommie and Alice!" Jacob waved and ran back off through the trees.

"Ready for this?" Tom asked.

"Not in the least." I sighed. "Lets go." I nodded.

Tom knocked at the door and it immediately opened, revealing a small hunched over gray headed woman.

"Tommie!" She exclaimed happily and hugged his middle. "Oh! I've missed you!" She clapped her thin wrinkled hands in joy. "Oh and you've brought a friend!" She smiled happily and me and hugged me as well, her hands came to a rest around my midsection and she jolted back in shock as she realized what she had felt.

"Oh my..." she sighed "you two should come and explain yourselves." She motioned for us to come inside and take a seat.

"Grandma it's not what you think." Tom started off.

"So this isn't your doing?" She raised a doubtful eyebrow at him and I coughed in surprise.

"No! No, of course not!" He shook his head.

"I'm married to a vampire." I told her quickly to save Toms neck. "We had...relations four days ago and I discovered I was pregnant soon afterward, he doesn't know though." I told her.

The poor woman paled from shock.

"You s-slept with a v-vampire?! Who's stupid enough to sleep with a vampire?" She gasped and stuttered in horror. "H-how?!"

"The coven I was around only drank from animals. They are much much better then blood drinkers, very friendly and kind, they are good and they loved me very much, especially my husband." I told her.

"You're...pregnant. You're sure of it?" She asked quickly and I nodded.

"Well, obviously. I've had children, I know what a baby bump feels like." She muttered to herself. "But a vampires child?" She sighed, looking at me with sad eyes.

"I'm scared." I admitted. "I don't know what to do, it's already growing so fast." I told her.

She reached across the coffee table and took my hand in hers. "It will be alright dear, I think I know someone." She told me softly. "You mustn't tell a soul around these parts however, they're likely to go to drastic measures." She spoke grimly.

"Really? You think you know someone who can help her?" Tom asked his grandmother, relief in his expression.

"Yes, she's a vampire I met on my travels years ago. She's the same as the vampires you described, an animal drinker, very friendly and charming. She has been all around the world, the woman knows everything, I'm sure she can help you." She nodded. "I'll get in touch with her and tell her your situation. Just stay in town for the next few days and I'll let you know when I get ahold of her." She told us and showed Tom and I to the door. "Now you kids get out of here and go have some fun!" She giggled.

"Sorry about that." Tom sighed as we walked the path back to Billy's house.

"About what?" I laughed, overjoyed his grandmother can get me some help.

"My grandmother jumping to conclusions." He sighed.

"It's alright." I shrugged. "That was much more likely then a vampires kid growing inside me." I laughed and he laughed with me.

"True." He nodded. "I'm just happy she knows someone." He sighed.

"Me too." I nodded, relief again flooding through me.

"Hey, lets go into town and get something to eat. I'm starving and there's a cafe in town that has the best cheeseburgers." Tom smiled and headed over to his truck.

"Okay." I laughed, climbing into the passenger seat.
