Prompt: Silence
Writer: JordanIt was a cool, autumn morning. I was sipping hot tea in my ghostly pajamas, like my usual tradition on October first. I couldn't stay comfy for long, as Today was the day to hang Halloween decorations. I got up from my couch and walked to the kitchen to rinse out my now empty mug.
OW.
Once I got to the kitchen, I lost my grip on the mug I drank from and the tea spilled on my hand, burning it. In the process I dropped the cup on the linoleum, shattering it into pieces... I stared worriedly at the jagged ceramic remains of the mug, confused. There was no noise produced by the crash. Only...
"Silence." I heard an unsettling voice say. It seemed close to my ear, but quietly whispered at the same time. I slowly turned my head, but saw nothing.
Probably just some kids pranking me.
I thought to myself.
After all, it is October... A time for Halloween pranks.
I exhaled relatively loudly, and put my hands on my hips. I did NOT need this today. My broom was somewhere in a closet, but which one? Rolling my eyes, I looked through 2 closets, my bathroom, my garage, my room, the kitchen, everywhere. Except... The attic.
Hesitant, I pulled down the creepy, creaking steps that lead to my attic. My footsteps got somehow quieter and quieter as I marched up each step, until there was almost no noise at all. I approached the light switch, and saw the light flicker on as I pulled the string. Strangely, there was no click for it to alert me the light was on.
"Ah! There you are." I exclaimed, grabbing the broom I had just discovered. I was about to head back down, when I saw some of the Halloween decorations I needed to set up for later. I bent down to pick up a box, but when I get back up, I realized something. The steps were gone. I dropped the box and rushed over to the opening of my attic where the steps once were, and what I saw still haunts me to this day.
the humanoid creature before me had long spindly white hair that covered all of his black face, except for his piercing orange eyes, and decayed, crooked, yellow teeth. His hands were as black as his face, with long unkempt fingernails protruding from the bony fingers, which were waving at me. he cocked his head to one side and whispered a word that still echoes in my head to this day.
"Silence."
with that word, the opening sealed up, and the light burnt out. I tried to scream for help, for him to let me out, for possibly anyone to hear me...but nothing came from my mouth. It was just...
Silence
