For the fifth consecutive time, June felt a hand shaking her awake. She made a swatting motion and groaned for them to stop. June turned on her other side and tossed the covers of her head.
“Oh, you guys,” Max’s voice whined. “I can’t believe you were out all night at the Brawl. Danni, look what you did to our new roommate: you ruined her.”
Max received another groan for a response, leaving the girl to huff to herself.
June felt a smile creep on her lips but it was quickly wiped by the fact that it was morning. June hated mornings.
“When did you come back in?” Max asked impatiently once June found the energy to sit up, albeit rather groggily.
“I dunno,” she mumbled and rubbed her eyes. “Earlier than Danni.”
June hazily recalled how easy it came to her when she’d tried to short the circuits in the walls again. She hadn’t even needed to provoke herself with some negative emotion. All she needed to do was think and concentrate and suddenly, it had worked.
How the building hadn’t noticed that their electricity had gone out overnight, June wasn’t sure. But she did know that it was back, seeing as her phone had fully charged and the lamp beside her bed was working normally.
June smiled and guessed it had been Eric’s doing, informing a techno. Or maybe it was just the technos being responsible.
June shook her head and wiped the smile from her face. Eric couldn’t have known how she’d gotten back to her room and therefore couldn’t have known to send a techno to her dormitory to fix the electrical wiring again.
What was she thinking?
“Hello? Earth to June? Man, you guys are so out of it!”
Max stomped a foot angrily. “I told you not to go out, didn’t I? I told you that that stuff is for people who spend their time badly.”
“Oh please, you’re just annoyed that you lost your first brawl,” Danni shot back with a yawn. She lolled her head to one side and shot June a wink. “Have fun getting back?”
June merely gave a grunt for a response and rolled her legs off the bed. “I’m sure losing the brawl wasn’t that bad.”
“It was hilarious,” Danni laughed with glee. “Max felt daring since her invisibility was listening to her for once that day. She decided to test it out and got all gutsy, challenging one of my friends to a brawl.”
“Don’t,” Max said through clenched teeth, her cheeks having turned bright red. Max lowered her eyes and muttered something about humiliation and accidents and that it wasn’t her fault.
“She lost control of her invisibility,” Danni continued. “The top half of her was gone but her bottom half was still visible. She lasted for a decent amount of time until she was wiped out.”
“What was the other person’s power?” June asked sympathetically.
“Don’t,” Max threatened, throwing one of her pens at the girl. She glared daggers at Danni.
“Oh it’s nothing to be ashamed of.” Danni chucked one of her pillows back at Max and stuck out her tongue. “She was telekinetic. Pretty weak and your invisibility threw her off a little.”
“Until she find my legs running around by themselves,” Max sighed miserably. “Don’t make me relive the horror.” She shuddered in disgust before shuffling towards the bathroom. “Moving on: you guys coming out to Orientation Day or not?”
