A Trip To The Past

chapter 7: meeting the Sandaime

"The Hokage's ready to see you three now." Naruto jumped off the chair, running up to the door before turning around noticing that Minato and Aimi weren't following.

He looked back impatiently at Minato and his sister.

Running back to Minato and Aimi, Naruto grabbed their hands and began to eagerly pull them down the hall.

"Come on, I wanna meet this Hokage guy!"

'Hokage guy? Really Naruto? You should at least show a bit of respect.' Aimi thought mentally face-palming.

"Hold on Naruto-kun, he isn't going anywhere." Minato laughed.

'Ah, I wonder how long it's been since we last saw gramps.' Naruto thought.

"Kit, remember that this isn't the third Hokage you know." Kurama reminded him.

'Exactly, he isn't the jii-jii we know, Naruto-nii.' Aimi agreed.

Naruto stopped his skipping, Kurama's and his sister's words bringing him back to reality, this Hiruzen was not their Hiruzen.

They won't be seeing the old man who despite being the leader of a village, would make time to visit them no matter how tired he was.

'I know, but it is still a version of the old man.'

Naruto stopped in front of the doors, Aimi was closely behind him, his hands were slightly sweaty and his heart pounding. This moment would decide if they could stay in Konoha.

Naruto slowly opened the door.

Minato put his hand on Naruto's shoulder and gave it a reassuring squeeze before gently pushing him forward.

And so, unprepared for the push, Naruto stumbled forward before tripping over a randomly placed chair. He face-planted straight into the Hokage's desk meanwhile Aimi was trying her best not to laugh.

"Ouch, that hurt! Believe it!" Naruto send an accusing look to Minato, who looked away laughing lightly. Aimi couldn't help it and started to giggle while walking to stand next to her brother.

"And who might you two be?" The Sandaime raised an eyebrow.

"I'm Naruto ol...-" knowing what her brother was going to say, Aimi slapped a hand over his mouth.

"And I'm Aimi, it's nice to meet you Hokage-sama." She said shocking everyone because of the formal and emotionless tone, well she looks like what? A 5 year old?

'The Hokage isn't old!' Naruto mentally exclaimed.

The old man Hokage was still a little on the older side but he wasn't that old.

'Hahaha! He must have aged badly because of your pranks, you did cause him a lot of stress....and paperwork.' Aimi said and Naruto blushed in embarrassment from his sister's statement.

"So you're the kids that Minato told me about."

"Uh, yes?" Naruto said, sparing a glance at Minato before turning back to the Sandaime.

"Hmm mmm well, I don't see any problem with you two living in Konoha as long as you consent to living with Minato."

'So, they want to keep a surveillance on us... I'm relieved, at least they're not so naïve as to leave two unknown people alone.' Aimi thought.

"Really?! We can stay with Minato?! YATTA!!!" Naruto ran over to the Hokage and gave him a hug.

"Arigato, Hokage-sama." Aimi said and the Hokage smiled.

"You're welcome. Can you two wait outside for a bit? I have something to tell Minato."

Naruto nodded and left the room his eyes gleaming with unconcealed joy, while Aimi stopped in the doorway and looked at the shadows out of the corner of her eye, slightly smiling at the hidden ANBU before she left, leaving the ANBU shocked.

~Hokage room~

"Minato, I'm sure you know this, but those two are hiding something."

The two had cold, hard eyes that made them seem like completely different people. Eyes that were used to sacrifice anything for their village.

"Yes, but I don't think that Naruto and Aimi have any malicious intentions towards Konoha. I believe that they are just children with a hard past."

"Very well I want you to watch them and if they do show any signs...then you know what you have to do."

Minato's eyes turned expressionless as he nodded. Minato left the room to find a smiling Naruto and Aimi sitting in a chair far to big for them.

"Minato-*growls*" Aimi blushed in embarrassment while Naruto rubbed the back of his head.

"Hahaha guess you two are hungry, want to go get some ramen?"

"YES!!!"

Minato watched the excited duo go on and on about how great ramen was, he hoped with all of his heart that whatever they were hiding it wasn't something that would put Konoha in danger because he wasn't sure his heart could survive having to kill the children he had begun to care for.
