It was October in New York. The leaves started to change colors, stores had Halloween decorations in the window, and the air had a slight nip in it. The ghostbusters were very excited, especially Holtzmann, Halloween being her favorite holiday. The fire house was decorated with lights, spiderwebs, and skeletons. Abby, Patty, and Erin weren't sure if they real or not. Holtzmann brought them in and you never know with her.
"Looks like it's gonna rain!" Erin said excitedly while she stared out of the second floor window. Grey clouds covered the sky like a blanket and the trees were blowing in the wind. Erin and Holtzmann were the only ones at work today. Patty had to help her uncle in return for losing his car and Abby was visiting her parents.
Holtz was sitting at a table working on some invention for the team. Wires were laying about the table, there was a messy pile of blueprints, and of course a fire extinguisher was nearby in case. Erin walked over to the table where her blond co-worker was deep in her work. She rested her hands on the table across from her.
"We should watch a movie!" Erin said, trying to get Holtz' attention.
"I have to work."
"Could you take a break?"
"mmm, no."
"oh. ok. it's cool I guess." She looked down at her hands and then back up at Holtzmann. Holtzmann lifted her head up and looked her. She could tell Erin was disappointed.
"We can watch a movie." Holtz gave in. Erin smiled and they both went downstairs. Holtz sat on the couch while Erin got snacks.
"What do you want to watch?" Erin asked.
"Beetlejuice?" Holtzmann asked, smiling. It was her favorite movie and she really wanted Erin to see it with her.
"Sure." Erin said. She grabbed the DVD and put it in the player. She handed Holtz a tube of pringles before turning off all the lights. She sat down next to Holtz and draped a blanket over the both of them.
Half way through the movie, a loud noise came from outside.
"thunder..." Erin whispered to herself. the noise happened again. Erin paused the movie and ran to window. It was pouring rain. As she was staring, a flash of lightning appeared. A smile spread across her face. She ran over to the couch to tell Holtzmann.
"It's raini-" She looked down at couch. Holtzmann had the blanket over her. "Holtz?" Erin said as she lifted the blanket up.
"Hey Erin. I was cold..." Holtz said, looking slightly scared. Erin cocked her head to the side.
"Holtz, are you afraid of storms?"
"Whaaaat? No. That is insane! I am not-" Another clap of thunder interrupted Holtz. Her eyes grew wide and she hid back under the blanket. Erin sat down next to her.
"Hey it's okay." She hugged the blob of blanket. She emerged from the blanket and looked at Erin.
"No! it's embarrassing!"
"Well I'll help you get over it!"
"How?"
"Lets go for a walk."
"I'm not going out there!"
"You want to get over it though! I'll be with you the whole time. If you get too scared we will come back." Holtzmann nodded reluctantly and she stood up. Erin grabbed an umbrella for them before putting on her shoes and Holtzmann's MIT sweatshirt. Holtzmann grabbed her leather jacket and favorite boots before following Erin outside.
"I don't like this..." Holtzmann said huddling close to Erin. Erin grabbed her hand and held it.
"You'll be fine. Let's go."
They walked down the street, hand in hand, the rain pouring around them. Every once in a while there would be a clap of thunder or a bolt of lightning and Holtzmann would whimper or jump a bit. When she did that, Erin would give her hand a squeeze and reassure her everything was fine. It seemed each time it happened, Holtzmann would be less scared.
By the time they got near the fire station, Holtzmann wasn't as afraid. She wasn't huddling close to Erin as much, and she would every once in a while jump in a puddle.
Suddenly as they were walking towards the fire station, a huge gust of wind blew the umbrella out of Erin's grip.
"Noooo!" she yelled as she ran towards it. Her and Holtzmann chased after it for blocks, but it was no use. It was gone. "Shit! We're like four blocks from the fire station and we have no umbrella! I guess we can get a cab.... but I have no money!"
"Sorry, I don't have any either. I don't like to carry cash on me in public. I usually loose it."
"I guess we can walk."
By the time they got back to the fire station, they were soaked. They stood there facing each other, just staring, admiring one another's features.
"Thank you for uh taking me out the rain."
No problem. you have a curl kinda in front of your eye." Erin walked closer to Holtz and tucked the blonde curl behind her ear, letting her hand linger by her face. Holtz looked into Erin's eyes before leaning in close to her. Her eyes flicked down Erin's lips, then back up to her eyes. She couldn't wait any longer. She connected their lips. At first Erin jumped a bit, but then she kissed back. Erin wrapped her arms around Holtzmann's waist and Holtz wrapped her arms around Erin's neck. They were both shivering, but they both felt warm inside. The rain continued to fall on them, their wet hair sticking to their faces and water running down their cheeks. They didn't care. All that mattered was that they were with each other.
