Chapter 1

Riker POV

"Riker, your father and I talked it over last night. And we decided that we're sending you back to the mental hospital," mom said.

"NO! YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO ME!" I screamed.

"Riker, they'll help you get better."

"No! Please! Why can't you let Rydel take care of me!? I trust her!"

"Riker, this is the best thing for you."

I pulled the covers back over my head, and started to scream. Dad came in and picked me up in his arms. I was too scared to try to climb out of his grasp. I just sort of curled up, scared to death.

He put me in the back seat of his car. I curled up, and he put my seatbelt on. I started trembling inside, and I couldn't stop crying.

After a short drive, we were back at the mental place. Dad had to drag me in, and I was trying to make it difficult for him to get me in there. Apparently he'd already called, and they had people ready to take me away. I had my arms wrapped around my dad, desperately trying to hold on, and not get taken away.

"Come on, Riker. Let go of your dad," one of the nurses said.

I only held on tighter. Dad had to pry me off of him. And then one of the nurses stuck a needle in my arm. I started freaking out. But then everything went black.

Later...

Riker POV

I opened my eyes, and immediately sat straight up. I started shaking. This is awful.

I was under some white sheets in a bed. I pulled the sheets off, and dove underneath the bed. I pressed myself up against the wall, and pulled the sheets over myself, hiding.

A few minutes later, someone opened the door, and I saw feet.

"Riker?"

A nurse knelt down next to my bed. I peeked out at her.

"Riker. Will you please come out?"

"No."

"Why not?"

"They'll come and find me and hurt me."

"Who?"

"All the people from jail! They're coming for me! Please don't let them get me!"

"Riker, I promise, you're 100% safe here. Nobody will hurt you if you cooperate."

I backed up even more.

"Riker, please come out. I have some dinner for you."

"I'm not hungry."

"Riker, it's important for you to eat. Even if you're not hungry."

"No..."

"Riker, this isn't something you can negotiate. We can do this the easy way or the hard way. It's your choice."

"It's not fair that you're trying to put me in danger!" I cried.

"Riker, you're not in danger."

"Well I don't want to come out! I just want to stay here!"

She sighed.

"Ok... Well if I let you stay under there, will you eat your dinner?"

I thought for a second. This is probably the best option right now. She'll let me stay under here. And if the people come for me, then at least I have a chance at hiding. Maybe if I eat a little, I won't feel so weak.

"Yes..." I said, quietly.

"Ok."

She pushed a tray of food towards me.

"Are you really going to let me stay under here?"

"Yes. Since you're here to get better, we're not going to force you to take big steps. We'll take small steps. And if you'll eat, but you want to be under the bed, then I'd rather have you eat under there, than not eat at all."

That made me feel a little bit better. I do want to get better. I'm just scared about all these steps...

The nurse left, and I looked at the tray. I had a ham and cheese sandwich, some apple slices, and a cup of juice.

I ate the apple slices, but I didn't feel hungry. So I didn't eat the sandwich. I drank the juice, and then pushed the tray away from me.

I pulled the sheets over myself again, and stayed curled up. I was really tired, so I went back to sleep.

The next day...

Riker POV

"Wake up, Riker."

I opened my eyes. The nurse was looking at me. I was still hiding under the bed.

"Come on out, Riker."

"No."

"Riker, come on. You need to get dressed and stuff."

"I don't want to," I said, starting to cry.

She grabbed my arms, and pulled me out. I curled in on myself, and started trembling.

"Riker, come on. I'll walk you down the hall to the showers, and you can take a shower and put on some new clothes, ok?"

"No!"

I stayed curled up on the floor. She wrapped her arms around me, and made me stand up. I was clinging to her arm, scared to death.

She made me walk down the hall. My legs were shaking pretty badly, and I kept tripping over my own feet.

She brought me to a room with shower stalls, but I didn't want to shower. I just sat down on the floor, and cried.

"Riker, come on. Please get up," my nurse said, trying to get me up.

I wouldn't stand for her. I just stayed in a curled up ball.

"Riker, if I take you to a single shower, will you please cooperate?"

I didn't move or say anything. She called another guy to come deal with me because apparently I was being difficult.

"Riker, I'm Matt," he said, introducing himself.

I just stared back up at him. He grabbed under my arms, and made me stand up. My legs were still shaking like crazy. He led me out into the hallway. We walked for a few minutes, and he unlocked a door. It was a small bathroom with a single shower in it.

"Riker, nobody can get you in here. I locked the door. Please just take a shower, ok?"

"No," I said, quietly.

"Riker, come on. You can get in the shower, and do it how you want to, or I can call someone to make you take a shower, and I guarantee you won't like it. Please just cooperate."

I just stood there with shaking legs, crying. Matt pushed me forwards towards the shower. I stepped in, got undressed, and turned on the water. I really don't want to get in trouble. They'll hurt me.

I washed my hair first, and then I washed my body. I made the water cold because I've been all sweaty from being scared. And the cold water felt good on my face.

I dried off, and Matt handed me a change of clean clothes. I put them on, and then got out of the shower stall.

"See? That wasn't so bad, was it?" Matt asked.

I just stared back at him.

"Alright, do you want to go back to your room, or we could-"

"Room."

"Ok."

He took me back to my room. I crawled back under my bed.

I hate this.
