Chapter 11

A few days later...

Riker POV

I think I've been doing better. I haven't been so scared. And my family visited. I got to take Ericka with me so she could meet them too. She met mom and Rydel. And mom and dad talked, and they said that Ericka can definitely come live with us once she gets better. I told them the whole reason I was getting better was because of her.

I was super happy about that. It was something I could look forward to and it sort of motivated me to try to get better.

"Ericka?"

"What?"

"Hi."

"Hi, Riker."

I started giggling a little.

"What are you laughing for?" Ericka asked.

"Nothing!"

"Riker."

I blushed hard.

"Come on. Tell me."

"I feel like I'm doing better. And you said that if I get better and you get better, we can date, and I was just thinking about that because you're really pretty."

Ericka laughed.

"Well in that case, you're really handsome."

"Really? With my T-shirt and sweatpants?"

"If I can be pretty in the same thing you're wearing with my hair up and no makeup, you can be handsome."

I smiled.

"You're making me blush!" I said, covering my face.

Ericka laughed.

"Ok, but seriously. You're motivating me to get better. Like... I know we're not dating, but it's like we're waiting for each other to be better, so we know none of us are going to go out with someone else. And it just makes me happy," I said, flopping over on her bed.

Ericka stared down at me, laughing.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing. You're just adorable."

"Quit making me blush!"

I covered my face.

Ericka nudged me. I sat up and hugged her tight.

"You know... Every single day... I fall for you harder and harder," I whispered.

"Me too."

"Really?"

"Really."

I wanted to explode inside. I was literally dying, I was so happy.

"So we just have to get better, right? Then we can date?" I asked.

"Yes. When we're both out of here, then we can date."

"Ok..."

"We can do this."

"I know. It's just taking forever!"

Ericka laughed.

"What!? Why do you keep laughing at me?"

"You're so dramatic, Riker."

"Thank you."

"It wasn't a compliment."

"Well then... I don't know what to say to that."

I rolled over, and curled up.
