The bowling alley was cold, as always, as we walked quickly towards the pool hall. Berkeley was there, sitting in the far corner with Jennifer, Amanda, and Shanna. Berkeley ran to me, wrapping her arms around me tightly.

“Why haven’t you talked to me since Friday?” she shouted.

I shrugged my shoulder and took a seat in the high chair at the table. Amanda put a dollar in the pool table and waited for all of the balls to come out and she came and hugged me.

“Hey girlie, I haven’t seen you in forever.”

I smiled and patted her back, “Yeah, I know. Ever since you were transferred to the Winfree Academy we haven’t been able to chill. It’s good to see you.”

She smiled and walked away to play her game with Jen.

Justin came and sat in the chair across from me, resting his elbows on the table as he sighed tiredly.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, looking at him.

“Nothing, I’m just a little tired, I’ve been running around with Gator all day.”

I nodded, “yeah he’s a catch.”

I stretched, my tattoo playing peek-a-boo under my pants.

“Nice,” he chuckled, nudging his head at me.

“What?”

“Your tattoo,” he smiled, “I didn’t see it all, but the artwork looks nice.”

“Yeah, I’d have to pull my pants down for you to see it all, and I don’t think you want me to do that right here in the middle of the bowling alley,” I said, then rethinking my choice of words, “not like you would want me to anyways.”

I cursed myself in my head, blushing.

He just smiled and laughed.

I heard a grumbling noise from Justin’s direction and I cocked my eyebrow, making eye contact with him.

“Sorry,” he said, “I haven’t eaten today, I’m kind of hungry?”

“Kind of? Your stomach is past growling, it’s practically barking at you,” I laughed, “come one, I’ll come with you to the snack bar and you can get something to snack on.”

I jumped down from the stool and waited for Justin as we walked out of the pool hall. I felt his hand lightly touch mine as we came shoulder to shoulder, he moved it in a way that made it seem as though he had been thinking about holding hands but then rethought his action and played it off as an accident.

For a Sunday there were hardly any people in the bowling alley. Probably all too hung over from the homecoming after parties, I thought to myself. There were a couple of elderly people bowling at the lane at the far in of the alley, but other than that it was mostly quiet outside of the pool hall where all of the bored teenagers were mingling with each other and breaking the rules by sitting on the tables.

We came to a stop at the snack bar and I saw Justin admire the last oversized pretzel. He stepped forward to the counter and ordered it, pulling cash out of his pocket. I stood, shifting my weight, watching the old people play their game. Justin turned to me and asked if I wanted anything and I shook my head. My eyes caught the flashing lights of the arcade and Justin followed my gaze as he turned back to me, pretzel in hand.

“Do you want to go play some games?” he asked, swallowing.

“I don’t have any cash on me,” I sighed, turning back towards the pool hall.

“I have some, let’s go play,” he smiled, grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the arcade room.

My face flushed and my stomach felt like it was doing gymnastics inside me. I shook my head hard, forcing myself to ignore these feelings. I don’t have time to have a crush on a kid like him. Not that there’s anything wrong with him, I mean…he’s nice and all but…it’s not that he’s unattractive it’s just…you know…I already have enough to deal with at home without having to worry about whether or not a crowd of strange Beliebers were going to be standing out on my front lawn when I try to leave for school in the mornings.
