I stood in front of the mirror in the dressing room, looking at myself in the short black dress that Justin convinced me to try on for him. It was an off the shoulder, mid-thigh length dress with a tie-dye type design on it. It looked fine, it just wasn’t something that I would normally wear. I’m not one for dresses, I hate having to sit right since I’m more of the type of girl who sits with her legs apart, so if I were to wear a dress or skirt, you would be able to see right up to my boy-short style underwear. That actually happened to me when I was in kindergarten. It was picture day and my nana made me wear a dress and I was sitting with my legs apart and the boy I had a crush on got a great view of my hello kitty panties. How embarrassing.
“Aiden, does it look okay?” he asked from the door.
“I look ridiculous,” I said.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“I look like…a girly-girl,” I whined.
“Let me see,” he said.
“No,” I stated.
“I will come in there,” he threatened.
“You wouldn’t dare,” I challenged him.
He grabbed the door knob, and I reached for my shirt as he opened the door and I covered myself with it, “Justin, I’m naked!”
He covered his eyes and closed the door really fast and I broke out into a fit of laughter.
“That’s not funny!” he said.
“Whatever, I’m not really naked, I was kidding,” I said, still giggling.
He opened the door again, slowly this time, to make sure I wasn’t kidding about not being naked.
I crossed my arms, not making eye contact, “well?”
“You look great,” he said, nodding.
“Fine, then we’ll just get this one since you didn’t like the ones I picked,” I said, furrowing my brow at him.
“What? I just didn’t like them, they were too simple,” he said and I mocked him.
“Your mom said I don’t have to get too fancy so I just picked the simple ones and you had to go with this one,” I sighed.
“Well, for one my mom’s not here to protect you now, and for two you look great,” he said, motioning to the dress.
“Alright, whatever,” I started, “now get out, I’m really about to get naked and get dressed.”
He stepped out and closed the door and I pulled the dress over my head and put it back on the hanger, reaching for my clothes. I slipped them on quickly and put my shoes back on. Grabbing the dress I opened the door and Justin was already standing there, waiting. He let me go first to the counter where he had already put the shoes that we had picked out. I quickly checked the price tag on the dress before I set it down in front of the lady behind the counter and stepped back as Justin handed over a credit card. The lady put it all in a bag and Justin took it, handing it off to me and we walked out of the store. School had just gotten out so there were a few teenagers showing up, but we parked close to the door so we just walked out and got into my car without being noticed.
It was already almost six so we didn’t waste any time getting back to the hotel. There were no paparazzi outside waiting, surprisingly so we just took the elevator up to his floor and walked casually to the room. Justin motioned to the bathroom, silently telling me to go change. I sighed and walked into the cold tile room, shutting the door quietly. My hair was a mess. Maybe Pattie could let me use some hair stuff…and maybe some eyeliner. I took the dress out of its bag and took my clothes, replacing them with the dress. Then I took the shoes out of their box, ripping the tags off with my teeth and slipping them on. Cautiously, I exited the bathroom. Justin wasn’t in the living room, but in the bedroom with the door closed where he was probably changing. Instead of walking in on him, I knocked.
