I angrily sit back down at the lunch table and glare at nothing.
"Katie, what's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"Baby don't lie to me."
I groan in annoyance. "Why did you have to be so rude to that kid?! He was just trying to help!"
"He was getting in the way of me protecting you." David retorts.
"Ugh. Whatever. Thanks for 'saving' me back there."
I get up and start to walk towards where Jordan, the new kid, is sitting all by himself. David calls after me to come back but I ignore him and continue to walk to him. I walk right past Austin's table and, just to piss David off, wink at him.
~*Austin's P.O.V.*~
Katie is strutting her way through the cafeteria. Her long, blonde hair sways back and forth behind her back and she swings her arms slightly.
"He-" I'm about to yell something to her when she turns her head and winks at me.
"Did you guys see that?"
The boys all smirk at me and nod. I shake my head and just smile. I think I've got her.
I watch Katie make her way over to where the new kid is. She sits down next to him and immediately starts talking to him. Instead of watching her though, I watch him. There's something about his body language, I don't like it. The way he looks at her. It doesn't feel right. But Katie doesn't seem to notice and just keeps talking. She's so clueless. Normally I don't go for girls like her but that body... I bite my lip at the thought.
"Go away David," I hear Katie say, bringing me back to my thoughts.
"I don't want you to hang around him!" He exclaims.
"And why is that?" He leans in and whispers something in her ear. He must've sensed the same thing I did. She shakes her head. "That's ridiculous. I trust him, I don't care if you don't."
"Katie, please. Just come back with me."
The bell rings, telling that lunch is over. She stands up and grabs her bag.
"Sorry, I can't. I have to take Jordan to his classes."
Jordan stands up too and Katie links an arm around his arm. She's about to walk away but she turns around and pecks David's lips. Then she walks away. I hurry and grab my stuff and jog after her.
"What do you want?" She says as I catch up to her.
I shrug. "I thought you were actually going to leave him there."
"I'm not like that. I'm only a bitch when I have to be."
"Yeah, and you needed to be back there. God Katie, you're such a softie."
She lets go of Jordan's arm and stops walking. "And what is that supposed to mean?"
"It means that you let everyone take advantage of you. You let people push you around. You never stick up for yourself. People are going to walk all over you for the rest of your life."
She doesn't say anything. She just looks down at her shoes.
"I know." She whispers. She looks back up at me. "I know."
Then she walks away.
~*Katie's P.O.V.*~
Everything Austin said is absolutely true. And I wish it wasn't. But no matter how hard I try to be aggressive, I can't. Nobody takes me seriously. I'm too petite and small. Being a nobody used to be what I wanted, but I don't want to be just a nobody anymore.
"Katie?" Jordan pokes my arm.
"Oh, I'm sorry." I shake my head and the thoughts away. "Were you saying something?"
"No. But, I was wondering if you were planning on staying at school all weekend or if you were going to go home.."
It's then that I realize that I went through 5th and 6th period without even thinking about it. Austin's words dug so deep, and the worst part is, is that they're true. And that is exactly what's making me think so much about it.
"Oh." I chuckle. "Yeah, I'm sorry." I put my things in my bag and stand up. "Do you need a ride home?"
"If you don't mind.."
"I don't mind at all. C'mon."
I lead Jordan to my car, where David is standing there patiently. Oh yeah, I'm supposed to go over to his house today. When David sees Jordan he stands up striaght and gives him a glare.
"Be nice," I whisper in his ear.
"Babe..."
"Sshh!" I place a finger on his lips then peck them with mine a few times. "It's fine. I'm just going to drop him off at his house."
"Fine," he groans.
I roll my eyes and unlock my car. David goes around and sits in the front seat and Jordan sits in the back. I start the ignition and Jordan begins telling me how to get to his house. When I pull into his driveway, my jaw drops in disbelief.
"This is your house?!" It's not a house. It's practically a mansion.
Jordan laughs. "I get that a lot."
"A lot? I thought you were new here?"
"Well, I'm new to the school, but I've lived here for like a year now. I've just been homeschooled."
"Oh, well that's cool."
"Yeah.. Katie, and David, I'm having a party tonight. Do you want to come?"
"Yeah!"
"No."
David and I say at the same time. I roll my eyes at David.
"Well, you can count on me to be there."
"Alright, cool. I'll see you tonight. Everyone's gonna get here at around 9." Jordan licks his lips. "Glad you're coming. And David, I hope you come to the next one."
"Bye Jordan!"
"Bye Katie."
Jordan gets out and I back out of his driveway and begin to drive to David's house.
"You aren't going." David says.
I scoff. "Um, actually yes I am going."
"Katie I don't want you to be around him. I don't trust him."
"Well, I do."
"Katie. You. Are. Not. Going." David pauses after each word.
I finally get to David's house and sigh angrily. "David, you can't control everything I do. I understand that you just want to be a good boyfriend and protect me, but it's getting on my nerves. You're a great boyfriend already. I don't know if it's because you think you might lose me or something that you get like this, but if it is, stop. You aren't going to lose me."
"I'm not controlling everything you do. But, you aren't going to that party tonight. I don't trust him."
I'm about to give in, when I remember what Austin said. I will not be walked on for the rest of my life. I will not let myself be pushed around. "Yes I am. And if you aren't supportive of that, then I'm sorry. But this won't work."
"Are you... Breaking up with me?"
"Yeah."
"Katie no, I just d-"
"Save it." I put my hand up. "Just get out of my car."
David nods and gets out. I drive back to my house and scurry up to my room. I have homework to do, and I don't know what I'm going to wear.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I walk up to Jordan's house, the music pounds. There are people everywhere. I had to park my car a block away. I take a deep breath and open the door. I'm new at this. I've never actually been to a party.
Whistles and hollers are yelled to me as I walk in. I would say something back to shut them up, but I'm at a party and, well, single. But I'm not going to get into anything tonight. I don't want to.
"Katie!" I look over and see Jordan. Only, he doesn't really look like Jordan. He's wearing light colored jeans and a black v-neck shirt that hugs his body and shows his muscles. His glasses are gone and his hair is.. He just doesn't look like he did.
"Jordan?"
He walks over to me. "I'm so glad you could make it!" He grips me in a tight hug and I hug back slightly and pull back, but he won't let go. "Don't tell anyone at school about this okay?"
"Okay.." He's still hugging me. "You can let go now."
He lets go and shakes his head. "Sorry. You just look really good." He bites his lip.
"Thanks," I say uncomfortably.
I look down at what I'm wearing. I guess I look pretty good.. I'm wearing a peach colored strapless dress that hugs my body tightly and a pair of white vans. It's simple, but it's cute. And I know that my hair and face looks good because that's what I focused on the most. My hair is straghtened and falls down to my mid back, and my make up is just like my normal-everyday makeup, just more clean.
"Do you want to dance?"
I shrug. "Sure."
He grabs my hand and leads me to where everyone else is dancing. I break out of my shell slightly and actually dance.
"So why didn't David want to come?"
"Don't know, don't care. I broke up with him after I dropped you off."
"Oh well. You're too hot for him anyway."
Great. It's another Austin.
"I'm gonna go get something to drink." I start to walk away but Jordan grabs me by my waist and pulls me back to him.
"No, why don't we go upstairs?"
"No thanks." I try to get out of his grip but he's too strong. "Let go!"
"Don't fight me on this. Just come upstairs with me babe."
"Don't call me babe." I once again try to break free of his grip but he doesn't let me. Instead, he throws me over his shoulder and walks towards the stairs. I kick and punch him, yelling at him to put me down, but he doesn't.
He walks into a dark room and throws me on the bed. He shuts the door and locks it.
"I told you that you shouldn't have fought me on this."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hug myself tightly as I sob and walk slowly past my car. I don't want to drive. I need to walk. I feel the makeup running down my face as more and more tears come. I run a hand through my hair and feel the knotted mess on top of my head. I sob harder and continue walking to the only place I want to be at.
Probably 30 minutes later, I'm at David's house and knocking on his door. I bring my arms back around myself and continue to cry.
David answers the door and immediately brings me inside.
"Katie? Baby what's wrong? What happened?" He eyes my dress that is now ripped and ruined. "What the hell happened?!"
"I should have listened to you." I whisper out inbetween sobs.
He brings me into a hug and I flinch. David must have felt me flinch so he releases me.
"Katie, what happened at the party?"
"I should have let myself be pushed around... I shouldn't have trusted the new kid."
