“Meghan? Meg, wake up.” I heard Justin say as I slowly opened my eyes. I was now on the couch, surrounded by Olivia, Kate, Brianna, Justin, and Bruce. I blinked a few times and went to sit up. “Oh good, you’re up, how do you feel?” He asked, concern dripping from his voice tone.
“I’m fine. I just hate blood. Where’s Evan? Oh my god, is he okay?” I frantically began to look around.
“I’m fine, Meg. Don’t worry about me.” I heard Evan say. I noticed he was sitting in an arm chair behind my friends, holding an ice pack to his jaw. “How are you feeling? I’m sorry I didn’t get there sooner.”
I reached up and touched my nose. It was tender, but not too bad. “I’m fine. I don’t really know what happened. Who was that guy?”
“Andrew Littman. He’s the quarterback at LBHS.” Olivia answered. “But don’t worry, Evan kicked his ass.”
“Evan, you really shouldn’t have. You could get in a lot of trouble. You could even get kicked off the lacrosse team.” I scolded him.
He just smiled at me. “Really? You think I care that much about lacrosse that I would sit idly by while a girl gets taken advantage of? Forget that.”
Justin patted him on the back. ‘Yeah, way to make us proud. Who knew you had it in you? For a lacrosse wimp and all.”
Evan batted him away and laughed. “Get off me, Tucker. As long as she’s fine, it doesn’t matter.”
“Evan? Evan, baby, where are you?” We could hear Alison call out from the front of the house. We heard her clicking through the hallway until she found us. “Oh, there you are. Where have you been? We waited outside for you after Justin kicked us all out but we couldn’t find you. Oh my god, what happened to your face, baby?”
“I got in a fight.” He told her, standing and removing the ice pack. I grimaced when I saw that his jaw was already purple and swollen. He had a small gash above his left eyebrow too. His Lacoste polo was ripped at the shoulder. If this is what he looked like, I would hate to see what Andrew looked like.
“Ugh, Evan. Look at your face! How am I supposed to bring you to the club tomorrow if you look like that?” Alison whined. “What the hell did you fight about? You look disgusting, and if you think for one second that I’m going to deal with this kind of behavior, you are so wrong!”
“He was just defending me, Ali. Take it easy on him.” I offered her a small smile, which was returned with a menacing glare.
“It’s Alison. And I should have known you would be involved. Stay the hell away from my boyfriend, Miller.”
“He was just helping her, Alison. Relax.” Justin told her, casually draping his arm around her shoulder.
She made a disgusted face and shrugged his arm off of her. “Get off me. Evan, let’s go. Now.” She turned on her heel and stalked back out of the house. Evan just shrugged his shoulders and followed her.
“Just when I was beginning to think he wasn’t a pansy, he lets that slut walk all over him.” Justin said, shaking his head in disappointment. “But he really did a number on that kid. Littman was practically crying when Evan was through with him. It took two of his friends just to get him out of the house.” He said with a laugh.
“I still don’t get what even happened.” I told them as I shook my head.
“Where is she?” Oh boy. That was definitely Matt, and that was definitely an angry tone. There are few things worse than an angry Matt. “Meghan? Where are you?” He yelled as he stomped through the house.
