"Meghan, please stop." My dad begged me as I stood and faced the wall, covering my eyes and ears as best as I could with my hands. Okay, Meg. Count to ten. I thought to myself. Breathe. This is just a nightmare.
I counted to ten slowly in my head before turning around. Sure enough, I was not dreaming. My dad was standing in front of me, looking totally ashamed of himself, and Samantha looked like she was about to cry. I shook my head in disbelief at them. "How could you?" I finally sputtered out. "How could you do this to us?"
My dad sighed and covered his face with his hands. "You weren't supposed to find out like this."
I scoffed at him. "You mean we weren't supposed to find out at all."
"Watch your tone young lady." He snapped at me.
I just stared at him, totally disgusted with this. Maybe I was being a little harsh, but the level of betrayal ran deep with this. It was one thing for him to see someone else. It had been over five years since Mom died. But it was another thing all together for him to be sleeping with the mother of someone who had made my life miserable for the past 72 hours, someone who just attacked me this morning. Before I knew it, I could feel the hot tears streaming down my cheeks. "Is this why you have been working late so often lately?" He didn't answer me, and looked down at his shoes. I sighed. "I'll see you at home."
I didn't give him a chance to respond, just turned and walked out the door. I was still shocked about what I had just witnessed. My dad wasn't supposed to be screwing women on his desk. He was respectable, kind, well-mannered. This was not okay with me. I made my way home and dragged myself up the stairs. I had a few texts from Evan, Brianna, and Kate, but didn't have the energy to talk to anyone. I really didn't want to hear anything Brianna had to say. I would call Kate later, but I would try Evan first. I sent him a quick replay, telling him I wanted to take a shower but that I would call him after. He responded immediately saying he couldn't wait, and that he had a surprise for me. That lifted my spirits immediately. I loved surprises!
Once in the shower, I felt myself calming down as the hot water soothed my aching muscles. We needed to have a family meeting to figure out what to do about Mrs. Wilson, and to talk about what Dad was up to. If I knew, the boys deserved to know too. It only seemed fair. I climbed out of the shower and put on a pair of baggy sweatpants and a tank top, loving the comfortable nature of the outfit. Donning my big fuzzy slippers, I became as happy as a clam. It really didn't take a lot to satisfy me. I pulled out my cell and dialed Evan, and felt a spark run through me when his deep voice answered.
"Hey, you." He answered. I loved the jovial tone in his voice, like he was sincerely happy to hear from me. It made me feel so warm and fuzzy inside. "How were try outs?"
