“What are you talking about?” I sputtered out, trying to casually sip my beer to calm my nerves.
Erica just smiled at me. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep it a secret.”
“There’s no secret to keep.” Damn it, heart, get it together! Stop pounding so hard or she’ll hear! I just had to push my limits and text him. Touch him. Smile at him. I knew I couldn’t keep it a secret. Now Erica is going to tell Mike, and Evan and I will be dead.
Erica shook her head at me. “It’s okay. I know what I saw, Meg. I even understand why you’re denying it. I just want you to know, I won’t tell on you. He seems like a great guy, you’d be dumb not to want him.”
“Okay. Fine. We’ve been dating since January. Mike is the only one who doesn’t know, cause he’s sp je;; bent on following the stupid rules. Everyone else breaks them all the time, but he is adamant that I shouldn’t date until college.
Erica nodded in understanding. “Your brother is a great guy, but really stubborn. I see why you’re hiding it. But hey, I’m pretty impressed that you have managed to keep it a secret so far. If I hadn’t seen the way he had his eyes on you just now, I never would have put it together. That boy cares about you, I could see it.”
I sighed. “So he says. Please just don’t tell Mike.”
She pretended to zip her lips. “Not a word. I swear.”
The rest of the night passed fairly smoothly. Eventually, we decided to go home after a great deal more drinking and dancing. Mike dropped Evan off at his hotel, while Brian brought Erica and I home. By the time Mike came back, we were all ready for bed and watching a movie. “Hey, Mike? Where am I sleeping?” I asked as we got ready to settle in.
Mike’s eyes went wide. “Shit, I didn’t think about this. I can sleep on the floor.”
“No, I will.” I told him. “I’m the one intruding.”
“What if she stays in my room?” Erica offered. “Jess is out of town this weekend anyway. It won’t be a problem.”
