By Thursday, I was convinced that I was the worst matchmaker in the world.  Matt and Kate were no closer to getting together, and I was beyond frustrated.  Evan begged me to just let it go, but I was obsessed with the idea.  Matt hadn’t told me about what happened yet, and Kate was still denying being upset about it, but deep down, I could tell they were both hiding something.  It was beginning to drive me crazy.

So now, here we were, four days later, and there was not a single new development, and it was driving me crazy.  Kate and I were at Evan’s house, lounging in his room and pretending to do chemistry homework, but we really making arrangements for the prom.

“I think we should all go in one limo.”  Kate suggested.

“You don’t know who you’re going with.”  Evan pointed out.  I shot him a look.  “I mean, yeah.  That sounds great.”  He corrected himself, flashing me that adorable grin of his.  It was contagious, and I ended up grinning back at him before I blushed and broke out gaze.  Looking back to Kate, she was making a disgusted face at me.

“Will you two stop making googly eyes at each other and actually help me?”

“Sorry, Kate.”  I giggled.  “But he’s right.  You have to go with Matt.  It would just make things so much better.”

“Meg, just drop it.  He doesn’t want to go with me.”

“He does!”

She sighed.  “Why won’t you just let this go?  He asked someone else right after I said no.  If he really wanted to go with me, he would have waited.  Instead, he went to Christie almost immediately and is ignoring me now.  But whatever, it’s for the best.  You and I are friends first.”
