Sunlight danced across spring flowers as she chased her twin around the grass green meadow behind their house. Her wolf had always been so carefree and playful, picking her little brother up whenever he fell. She was two months older, proud to be able to look after her brother and watch him grow up beside her without a worry in the world. She savoured these moments when she could play, but soon returned to her duties for the rest of the evening. Her father was a strict man, but kind and caring when the time came, he had to be. He was alpha.
She would work beside her father in pride as he trained her on the responsibilities that came with the title. Since 8 years of age she worked hard and learnt fast, becoming fluent in French, English and Mandarin, topping her class consecutively and pushed herself to train harder, become faster, fiercer, stronger. No one had dared to approach her at school, she didn't need anyone else other than her parents and Elliot, but he had his friends.
Elliot was outspoken, popular and well-liked by the Midnight Storm Pack, hanging out with his pack mates when Arabella was up in her study. He would become alpha. The pack was already on his side and that's all he needed. Why work so hard if no one wanted you as their leader?
The day of the announcement arrived when Arabella had turned eighteen, her father was proud of how hard she had worked, and her mother's nervous chattering made her laugh when she fiddled with pieces of her lavender dress. Elliot brought a bottle of water for each of them as he gave a brief hug to his sister and wished her luck before walking backstage. Her mother had drunk half the bottle to calm her nerves and her father took sips to quench his thirst, but something smelt funny, the seal was broken as she twisted the cap and a strange feeling stirred within her. Her wolf also sensed something wrong.
She knocked the bottles from her parent's hand, but it was too late, the poison had already taken effect as her mother and her father fell to the floor. She screamed for help but no one heard her over the crowd, she held onto their hand as Elliot smiled cynically at her and stepped up on stage to begin his act.
"All Midnight Storm members, I am beyond utter grief to tell you that Alpha Liam has passed away last night in an unfortunate accident along with his mate, the Luna Maria." A wave of silence passed as Arabella glared murderously at the traitor.
"In such an event, I will take over as alpha. The loss has cut deep into my heart, but I will carry on my role and duty to you all." He announced with so much pretence that Arabella felt bile rising up into her throat. The crowded muttered and nodded amongst themselves as they begun to accept the situation. He will not become Alpha after what he did, she will be their leader.
Arabella stood and walked over to Elliot, straightening her posture so that she stood eye level to her brother. "I am alpha, you are not yet eighteen." In a dangerous tone that froze the pack to their bones. Turning to her pack she yelled. "I am your alpha, this boy has killed your former that lies dead over there." She pointed at where her parents were but they were no longer there.
Elliot talks to the crowd in a warm voice, sickening her "Take no notice of the words she has said, however it is true I am not yet 18. I will be coming of age in two months, but that is not long. I hope you will have patience and stand by my side as I give everything to you and to the pack. My sister, Arabella is eighteen however she does not have the qualities to lead. I can do it for you. I can do it for us." Cheers rang through the field as they bowed to their alpha, but soon turned to growls as Arabella spoke up.
"NO! Listen to me! He is a murderer! He killed his own parents! He poisoned them!" The crowd became a frenzy as they shouted at her.
"Leave us!" a man shouted.
"We don't want you!" a child's voice cried and ran up to kick her in the shin. It hurt like hell.
"You're just covering for yourself, you're more likely to have killed Alpha Liam!" another yelled out.
"Yeah!" others joined in.
"Go away!" they began throwing objects in her direction.
"We don't want you!" Elliot shoved a bag at her and pointed towards the exit.
"You'll never be our alpha!" she took a step towards the woods.
"You're weak!" tears began to spill.
"You're useless!" she shifted with the bag in her mouth, clothes tearing and ripping as she took on her wolf form.
"You're just a girl!" she ran and didn't look back.
