Arabella's POV
"Okay." I whispered, fully knowing how false my voice sounded. His arms tightened around me as if he knew I would disappear in thin air. I kissed his cheek in a reassuring gesture and stood to gather my clothes, forcefully suppressing the blush that rose beneath my pale cheeks. I would be staying with him, for now.
He began to fill the silence with mundane questions as I worked, but did not interrogate me as I suspected he would when he entered.
"How old are you?"
"23." I know his age already.
"What's work like?" he questioned.
"It's tiring at the end of the day like all work, but the good thing is that you get paid. I like the restaurant, it keeps me busy during the week. How about your work? Must be hard being an alpha. With everyone relying on you."
"I guess. I didn't really have a choice though. My dad raised me to be an alpha, it's all I've ever known and the pack is always by my side so I know I have people supporting me." Something that I never had since my parents passed. A repellent to trust that grew over the times I spent on lone days and even lonelier nights.
"Have you ever wondered what you would be if you weren't alpha?" I ask.
"Not really, like it said. It's all I've ever known."I wouldn't have a clue either as I was raised with a similar objective. To be alpha. Unfortunately that never happened.
"Really? You would have no idea?" I urged, raising an eyebrow in disbelief.
"Well, maybe a pack soldier, but no. No idea. How about you? Would you be waiting tables for the rest of your life if I hadn't found you crossing on forbidden territory?" he asked playfully. Leila wanted to play too. Play! Hehe. She jumped on him. Gosh, there must be something seriously wrong with her. I had to shift to compensate just for her. Sigh. The things I do for my wolf.
He was none the less shocked at my sudden action because we both were flying out the window and he shifted in mid-air. A bright red wolf with golden iris's that mesmerised both me and Leila. I was drunk in them. My mind felt hazy as Leila only wanted to lick him all over.
Splash. Okay. Now I'm sober.
The lake engulfed us, providing a cold landing for our fall. We came out spluttering and gasping for air.
'What in the world Arabella?'
'Let's play!!!!!' Leila squealed in delight as she shook and sprayed droplets all over her mate.
He snarled. Leila was scared. Great. Now I have to fix her mess. Don't get me wrong, my wolf is amazing, but also very childish.
I growl in response, over powering my wolf. Matthew stares back challenging my glare with one of his own.
'Can't you answer a single question about yourself?' Well, someone was snappy.
'I did! My wolf just suddenly came out. My bad.' I speak as insincerely as the mind link allowed.
'And lunged at me, breaking a window and almost giving me a concussion, mind you.'
'You'll heal.'
'Wow, I can feel the concern just dying to throw itself at me.' He rolled those sparkling golden eyes. Leila wanted to jump at him again. Thank god I was in control this time.
'What?' He shook his own fur and water rained down on me.
I slowly swim up to him with a calculating gaze and licked his face. Slobbering as much as I could because he's annoying and I felt like grossing him out a bit just so I was an easier excuse to get rid of.
'Y-y-you. Did you just. Grrrrr.' He pounced and dragged me under.
An explosion of bubbles surround us. Those eyes glinted of mischief, but no matter how much I thrashed, he held me down at the bottom. I stopped fighting, and he let his guard down. Bad move buddy. Kicking off the lake floor, I shot up and head butt his. We both reached the surface, blood ran freely down the right of his face and into the lake, staining the waters red. He had taken the worst of the impact.
Without a word I paddled towards him, he backed away until he reached the edge and bared his fangs at me. I continue swimming towards him until he could no longer find a way out of my trap.
'What do you want?' His tone was sardonically painful to my ears. We didn't like that. Didn't like the way he was talking to us at all.
I lean in closer and lick his face. I lick wounds, the blood that covered a half of his wonderfully beautiful face, the cracked skin beneath red, red fur.It tasted warm and metallic. The blood of a wolf. An alpha. It tasted golden.
'I want nothing more than you do.'
'Arabella?'
'Hmm?'
'What are you doing to me?'
'I don't know.'
'That's impossible. You should know.'
'Why?'
'Because you're alpha.' It was his turn to lean in close and lick the side of my face. I caught the sight of blood on his tongue.
'Wrong. I'm a rogue.'
'I taste power in your blood. It's sweet yet steel hard. Quite addictive to me, but may make weaker wolves a bit nausea.' He was still caressing my face with his tongue. Sparks cackled with each gentle swipe.
'Everyone is weaker than the alpha.'
'Not me.'
'Well, you are an alpha. We're on level ground.' My head spun as I attempt to grasp onto concentration.
'You just admitted that you're an alpha. You realise that?'
'Are you trying to clean my face because the lake would do a better job than your saliva.'
'Ouch.'
'Yeah, it was supposed to hurt and just for your information. Your blood tastes weird.' I lie.
'Hmph. Well lets get going. We've been here for long enough.'
