Matthew's POV
I dismissed Beta Evelyn, keeping my eyes on the charcoal wolf growling and snapping at me. Her iris's had turned into a stormy ocean of blue-greys as she bared her razor sharp teeth at me, clearly showing me her status as alpha. I had forgotten her power this morning, being too distracted by her beauty. Throughout the day, I noticed the unconscious smiles when my jaw began to hurt. I remembered the way her hand felt in mine and yearned to see my mate again. So perfect. She's so perfect.
Another growl echoed through the house and she began walking towards me. My wolf tensed in response to how hostile she looked. Her wolf was an inch smaller than mine, but somehow held equal power, even when she had gone rogue it had not dimmed. I snarled back at her, making my position equivalent. She stilled and begun to whimper, drawing back. I blinked several times at the change in her mood before remorse made me look away from her retreating figure. I meet her gaze when she backs up into the wall behind her, she was still making small sounds as she looked at me with those beautiful ocean eyes. Hesitantly, I take a step towards her, she presses her back into the wall.
'I'm not going to hurt you.' I speak in her mind like the first day I caught her heavenly scent.
She doesn't reply but relaxes after a while.
'If you want, I'll leave.' , not wanting to scare her further, I offer her an option. My wolf wished to comfort her, but I respected the she-wolf in front of me. She was different, stronger than anyone I know. I didn't want her leaving instead, so I leap up onto the small balcony.
'Stay.' I hear, just before I decided to jump into the forest. It was so quiet that I thought I was imagining it, but it came again.
'Stay.' slowly, I turn to see her coming towards me in slow paces, but stops to sit mid way.
'STAY!' she howled in agony. I move instinctively towards her to soothe my hurting heart and nuzzle my face into her neck as she breathed out a sigh of relief, knowing that I wouldn't leave her.
'I'm not going anywhere.' I reassure her, pressing my face into the darkness of her fur. The vanilla, coming out stronger amongst the rain on pine.
'You were.' she accuses as she stands to face me. I am lost in the grey's swirling with the blues like a tornado catching wind. Her eyes seemed to search mine before she touched her snout to mine, and gave me a hard look.
'I won't leave you. Ever.'
'Promise?'
'Promise.'
'Good. Do you have any clothes I could borrow?' , this girl is as unpredictable as the weather, but her practicality was typical of an alpha. She would be a good leader one day.
'I'll find something, stay here until I finish showering unless you want to see me naked.' She grumbled. I was smug with satisfaction from getting to her as I walked up to my room, shifting back so I could twist the knob without putting teeth marks into it. Without a second thought, I jumped into the steaming water and let the heat loosen my stiff muscles.
