Stumbling through the front door at my house, I collapse on the floor. Unable to move, I lie there crying to myself. After laying there a good 5 minutes, I push myself up to a sitting position and look at the clock to see how much time I have to get ready. It reads 3:48. I have close to a half hour to get ready. Collecting all of the strength I have left, I head to the kitchen and get myself a glass of water in attempt to calm myself down.

I would very much love if I didn’t have to go now, after the news I was just given. Maybe I can find a way around it. Maybe Damon isn’t really my etairon? What proof does my aunt and Dad have that says he is? So what if she saw some vision. I know I’m in denial, but I can’t die. They have to be wrong.

The buzz of my phone interrupts me and forces me to refocus. The screen is blurry from my newest set of tears, and from how much I’ve rubbed my eyes. The light of the screen hurts my eyes, and once I refocus and read ‘new text message from Damon’, my heart shatters and tears resurface. He might die too because of this connection. I decide to call him, since I’m unsure if I will be able to see the screen.

He answers almost immediately, “Seph, did you talk to your dad?”

I accidently whimper and curse under my breath at how weak I am.

“Damon. It’s terrible. I don’t know what to do.” I try containing myself, but I keep sobbing over the phone.

“Hun, it’s going to be okay. We will work out whatever this is. I don’t know what you just discovered, but try to put it aside, get ready for graduation, and we will go somewhere afterwards to talk in private.”

All I can manage is an “okay” and hang up.

Running upstairs to my room, I decide to get dressed first. My mom laid out several dresses to where underneath the graduation gown. I narrow down my options to a loose light purple dress, and a clingier black lace dress. I decide on the light purple one, since purple is my favorite color. I choose my silver chandelier earrings to go along with it. Going into the bathroom, I decide to use a bit of concealer to cover up my red eyes, along with silver eye shadow to make my eyes appear to be less puffy.

I deem myself to look well enough for public, grab the hat and gown, and some black heels my mom picked out.

As soon as I step out of the bathroom Mom runs over to me. “Oh honey, you look beautiful. Are you ready to go? I will go get your father and Desi so we can follow you in my car.”

“Yea I’m ready, is Desi ready?” I say with a chuckle.

“What’s so funny? I’m never late.” Desi says while stepping out of her bedroom.

“No honey, you’re just never early.” Mom says.

“Hey, that’s not totally true.” Desi says.

“Yes it is. Now go find your father. He’s probably in his study.” Mom says.

“I’m going to get going, its 4:11 and I need to be there in 4 minutes. You guys have until 4:30. See you later.” I say.

“Good luck. Be home by 12:00. I don’t want you staying out all night. Is Damon driving you home after the campfire?”

“Yep, see you later.” I kiss her cheek and run down the stairs.

All of the seniors are in the back of the auditorium getting in our practiced alphabetical line. Our graduating class is so small that these events usually take an hour. Once we all are where we are supposed to be, we head out and take our seats. Our principle Mr. Zurlo, gives a speech about how vast our futures are, and to choose wisely. Some of the teachers speak up to say something nice about our class. It takes about 20 minutes before they start calling names.
