The beep of my alarm disturbs me from my dreams. I don't feel like getting up. Reaching over to hit the snooze, I read 6:02am. Letting out a groan, I pull the blankets over my head and try slipping back into my dream filled sleep. My exhaustion is begging to take over.
A knock on my door only makes me wrap my pillow around my head.
"Seph?" Mom says softly.
Ignoring her, I tug the blankets even tighter around myself.
"Persephone honey, it's time to get up. You don't want to be late on the last day of school."
Letting out an exasperating sigh, I slide the blankets aside and throw my pillow across the room. Mom hears the thud of my pillow, and pushes the door open a sliver making light creep into my small purple room.
"I'm up, thanks mom."
She seems unsure, and hesitates before leaving. Peering into my room, she finds me sitting up on my bed. Getting the reassurance that she needs, she leaves to make me breakfast.
I know I look like a mess. I can't believe I fell asleep with my makeup and dress still on. My silvery blue eye shadow is most certainly smeared, as I just got through rubbing my eyes before remembering my makeup was still on.
I slip out of my tight teal dress, and wrap my robe around myself, tying it securely. I gather my clothes and head towards my door.
Not wanting to be seen, looking as sloppy as I do, my eyes scan the hallway for any sign of Desi. Satisfied that she's still in her room, I make my way to the bathroom to splash off in the shower.
Stepping into the shower, I let out a strangled yelp and jump away from the icy water. I'm so out of it that I didn't give the water a chance to warm up. Testing the water a few times, I confirm the water has finally warmed up.
I throw on my clothes as fast as possible and twist my wavy dark chocolate hair into the towel. I apply a small amount of mascara and silver eye shadow. Undoing the towel, I dry my hair as best as I can. My hair is being uncooperative as usual, so I decide to put my hair into a braid, which reaches my lower back.
“Sephey hurry your butt up, I need to use the mirror!” Desi screeches while pounding on the door.
“God, be patient Des.” I hiss through the door.
I scoop up all of my stuff, and open the door. A burst of laughter seeps through my lips as she falls to the ground.
“That’s what you get for being impatient.” I stick my tongue out at her and laugh again.
She mumbles under her breath and stomps into the bathroom, still disoriented from falling. She shouldn’t have been leaning against the door in the first place. I know she’s going to whine to Mom about this later.
Back in my room I dump all of my bathroom stuff on the floor. Scanning my room, I can’t find my cellphone. I scamper around my room searching for it, but I’m left dumbfounded that I can’t find it. I’ll have to check my car before we leave. Before dashing down the stairs I remind Desi that if she doesn’t hurry, she won’t have a ride.
“Good morning Mom. Where’s Dad? I haven’t heard him at all this morning.” I say.
“Good morning sleepy-head. Your dad had to go to the office early. Apparently there was an urgent case of puppy sniffles. You know how he is when it comes to animals. Also I found something you might need.” She hands me my cell and rolls her eyes, our family trademark.
“Thank you so much! I couldn’t remember where I put it. Where did you find it?”
“It was in your leather jacket pocket. I heard it ring when I went to hang it up. Now eat your breakfast so you aren’t late.”
