Chapter 12
Saxon held out the pregnancy test, waiting for me to take it from his hand. I just threw my hands up and turned on my heel, storming out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. “I am not pregnant, Saxon. I just don’t like salmon!” He gripped me by my arm and spun me back toward his body.
“Just take the fucking test. Ease my mind.” He urged as he pressed the test into my palm and looked at me with wide eyes. “Please.”
I sighed and shrugged. “Fine, why not? I know I am not pregnant, so what can it hurt?” I wrapped my fingers around the plastic wrapped stick and walked back in the bathroom, slamming the door shut behind me. I bit into the wrapper and tore it open with my teeth, muttering curses under my breath.
“I will be waiting right here, Scarlett. Alright?” I heard him call through the door and I just rolled my eyes, ignoring him. I quickly took the test, setting it on the counter as I waited the three minutes the instructions called for. “Scar, can I come in now?” I walked to the door and unlocked it.
“Fine.” I walked back and sat on the toilet seat as I waited, watching Saxon warily. “Why do you care anyway? All you are gonna do is say it’s just another problem.”
He sighed and made his way toward me, cupping my face in his hands. “I didn’t mean it. I promise.” His thumb stroked my cheek and I pulled away from him roughly.
“Fuck off.” He moved his hands and let them ball up into fists. We sat in silence until the time was up and I picked up the pregnancy test, sighing with relief. “It’s negative.”
I saw the look of relief cross his face, only to be briefly interrupted by an expression of disappointment. But before I could call him out, it was gone and he smiled sheepishly at me. “I am sorry. I just freaked out, I guess. I mean, my mom called saying that you were getting sick and then I realized that you weren’t sick this morning. I just kind of assumed…”
“You know what happens when you assume.” I snapped, tossing the test in the trash. “You make an ass of you and me.” I stood and brushed past him and stormed into the bedroom, not wanting to hear Saxon’s crap. I went to the closet and pulled my clothes off, tossing them in the laundry basket.
His footsteps were quiet behind me, and I stiffened. “I am sorry, Scarlett. Really. Can I take you out for dinner? Can I try to make it up to you? Please, baby.” He wrapped his arms around my waist and pressed a kiss against the back of my neck, causing me to shiver a bit. I hesitated, fighting to not lean back into him, but nodded anyway. “Thank you. I promise, it will be great.” He kissed my cheek and chuckled deeply.
“Alright… But I don’t want you to spend too much on me. Prove to me that you can do cheap and simple.” I muttered, turning in his arms until I could look up at him with wide eyes. He just nodded and placed a gentle kiss against my lips. He chuckled again and nibbled my bottom lip.
