Short filler chapter. I am sorry guys!
Chapter 18
“Are you sure you are ready to do this?” Saxon whispered into my ear, squeezing my hand tightly. We were both nervous about this appointment, and my sister being here did not help ease the tension. Ashley kept babbling on about names and how often she would get to see the baby, but I sincerely just wished that she would shut up.
I turned to look into Saxon’s eyes, swallowing hard to soothe my nerves. “Not really, but what else can be done right now?” I answered him, linking our fingers and squeezing hard. “The rehearsal dinner starts around seven, right? We have plenty of time?”
“Yes, Scar. Quit worrying. It is one one o’clock now, so we have enough time for you to get ready after our appointment.” He laughed and cupped my cheek, leaning in to kiss my lips tenderly. “Besides, I can’t wait to see how far along you are. The farther along you are, the faster I get my family.”
His words made my smile and my heart pounded even harder in my chest. “You sure are a smooth talker, aren’t you?” I teased, my sister tugging on my sleeve. I turned to her, annoyed. “Yes?”
“My boyfriend said that he can’t make it tonight. So he is just going to come tomorrow. I just thought I would let you know while I am thinking about it.” She gave me an innocent smile, but I knew her a little better than that. She was just trying to gain my attention.
I sighed and smiled, about to answer her when the nurse opened the door that led back to the examination rooms. “Scarlett Jonsten.” I stood, looking to Saxon for reassurance, finding it in his gentle smile. Walking to the nurse, the other two fell into step behind me, not saying a word.

“You are about five or six weeks along, Ms. Jonsten.” The doctor flashed me a toothy grin, and a deep lines formed in between his eyebrows. I stared at the screen, taking in the sight of the tiny little bean shape that sat just to the right of the center. The tears rolled down my cheeks, and I wasn’t sure if they were due to fear or happiness. Every emotion just seemed to roll through me all at once.
My sister suddenly clapped her hands together, bringing me out of my daze. “This totally reminds me of a jellybean. Oh, am going to nickname it jelly bean!” I ignored her and turned to look up at Saxon.
He just sat there, eyes glued to the screen. Even he had tears that streamed down his face as he covered his mouth with his fingers. Saxon looked as if he were branding the image into his head, and the thought made my heart squeeze. Could this beautiful man truly take responsibility for me and his unborn child? Was he man enough to own up to this? Or would he eventually turn away from the both of us? I shook the thought out of my head, not wanting to even think about what I would do if he left.
“Why are the two of you so quiet?” Ashley was practically squealing and losing her mind at our silence. Her bright blue eyes were lit up like neon lights, and I couldn’t help the agitation that caused my hair to stand on end.
I cut my eyes to her and glared. “Will you just shut up?” I snapped, growling. Her eyes widened and she shut her mouth, slumping back in her chair. “I just want to sit here for a moment. I can’t believe it…” I whispered the last part, reaching out to take Saxon’s hand.
“I am trying to take it all in too, baby.” He whispered, smiling down at me before finally pulling away. “Do we make our next appointment with you? Or will we need to call?” The screen was shut off and the doctor pulled the ultrasound wand from between my legs.
The doctor chuckled. “Someone is excited, I see. But you can make an appointment at the front desk. I suggest that you come back in six or seven weeks. And then four weeks after that. We will be able to tell you the gender between sixteen and twenty weeks.”
“Well, I am certainly hoping it is a girl.” Saxon boasted, eyes twinkling and his head held high. It was no mistake to say that he was proud. Saxon was proud of our child, and the thought only made me fall for him even more. At that moment, the world could have been ending and I would have just stared at Saxon like he was the only person I had even known.

Carla kissed my cheek and gave me a tight hug as we entered the reception room. Everyone in the wedding party was waiting by the time that Saxon, Ashley, and I had arrived. Carla led Saxon and I to our spots at one of the tables and sat us down.
“You are late! What on earth were the two of you doing? Did you at least use protection?” Carla sent me a wink and laughed. I blushed and looked to Saxon, who just stared off into space with a content smile on his face. “Anyway, I suppose we should get on with this, then.”
Ashley laughed and leaned in to squeeze Carla’s hand after shaking it. “Oh, trust me. If you knew about where we were today, you would be silent too.”
“What? What is going on?” Carla’s eyes went wide and I gave my sister a pointed look. “Saxon, where were you before this?”
“You didn’t know that they had an appointment to find out how far along Scarlett’s pregnancy is?” Saxon and I both stiffened, eyes flickering to Carla, whose face was as white as a sheet of paper.
I glared at Ashley, shame filling my cheeks. “Ashley! What are you doing?”
“What? You mean, she didn’t know?” My sister just stared back at me, but I could see the wicked glint in her eyes. The fucking bitch! How could she? “Anyway, I need to go call my boyfriend. I will be right back. “And just like that, she practically skipped out of the danger zone.
