the Merry-go-round

I looked at the ride, sickened. Everyone else was enjoying what they saw. Animals everywhere, poles stuck through them. The animals couldn't move as their nerves were shot. The animals limbs were forced into positions that made them look happy, and the atmosphere made them seem happy, but they were alive. Blood came from the poles and out of their mouth. Not pouring, but dripping slowly. you could see the pain they were in. you could see the tears in their eyes, and they still blinked, forcing me to acknowledge they were alive. There were crowds gathered around each line hoping for a ride on this sickening display of cruelty. The people sat on the impaled animals while the gruesome contraption spun. People watched and laughed, not because of the people, but because of the animals. They laughed at the pain the people were causing the animals. the laughter became louder every time an animal squealed in agony. It was all so sick, so twisted.

"It's a shame." I said. "It's a shame what people have resorted to in order to entertain themselves."

People looked back at me like I was insane, but i didn't care. I was done with this cruel illusion society had made. Society laughed at pain. Pain was just a joke to them. That's why these animals were kept alive, to watch the suffering that ensued. All i could hear was the pain of other animals and the joy of the people seeing it. it sickened me, and i decided to do what i came here to do.

"Its such a shame that you are all part of this insane and sick illusion." I said. I walked angrily over to the controls, and stopped the machine. people yelled at me. I flipped them off in response. Then some people came at me angrily, but i pulled out a gun, and they backed off. I walked over to the closest animal, and I petted it. it was a deer, and It blinked in response.

"I will free you." i said. "I will free all of you!" I yelled. I put the gun to its head and pulled the trigger. Its eyes faded into a grey, signifying it was dead.

"Hey, you are killing our fun here!" a man said, walking forward. I pointed the gun towards him.

"Its either you or them." i said, my voice unwavering. "Make your choice wisely." the man backed away, and i resumed my work. The other people had gotten off of the carosel, and a big crowd had surrounded me. I walked over to the next animal, which was a lion. I saw its eyes look at me, and i heard a growl. I put the gun up to his head and pulled the trigger. I repeated this process for each animal. the carosel order went as follows: Deer, lion, tiger, zebra, wolf, cheetah, bear, panther, pony, goat, and a mastiff, totaling eleven animals. When i reached the dog, i became sick to my stomach. How could people think it was okay to do this? how could society value their own lives so much, but care so little for these animals? I pulled the trigger and walked away. I pointed my gun at the crown, and a path opened up. I walked forward, waving it around to make the gap between us bigger. eventually, I cleared the crowd, and walked away from this twisted place.

"They're free." I said as  walked away. "They're free."
