Chapter 9
My feet gently pad against the concrete. Cabe walks a few steps ahead of me, looking back every few minutes as if I'm about to disappear. Ha. I wish.
"Where are we going exactly?" I ask for the tenth time. He rolls his eyes. I scoff at his response, before resuming in my following.
"I already told you, we're going into town." he finally bothers wording a response..
"That's pretty fucking vague," I mutter under my breath, half serious and half just trying to annoy the fuck out of him. Either he's ignoring me or he didn't hear. I try again, "Why are we even going to 'town'?"I say, emphasising 'town'.
His crystal blue eyes glance at me before heading back in the direction of the high street. "Mainly food, partly because I have to meet up with a few friends." I take a minute to process the second part of his half-assed answer. Then I do.
"What the fuck? I never agreed to meeting your friends! Why are you even taking me?" I nearly spit out the word friend. Then I almost cringe at how whiny my last question must have sounded.
"Well, no offence Lilly," he pauses and turns to face me, halting me in my path, "I can't exactly leave you in my house, alone. So yes, you're going to have to fucking suck it up and meet a couple of my friends." I flinch at his harsh tone, his frustration evident in his expression. I look down at the pair of worn sneakers I'm wearing.
I subtly shift my eyes back up to his, locking onto the blue gaze that effects me a little too much, and nod. He nods back before swivelling around again and speedily walking towards the required destination. I blink, before following behind his tense frame.
Stupid Sawyer. You always push things too far. I continue to berate myself for a few minutes, before realising we had finally reached the high street.
People milled around, whilst clusters of shops lay on the sides. The last time I came here was very different. First of all, I didn't have the constant worry that he's going to find me and finish what he started, a cold shiver runs through me at that thought. Second of all, I didn't have an annoying, but still fucking hot guy as company.
"So, what do you want to eat?" Cabe asks, his past frustration now morphed back to his normal relaxedness. I let out a breath, relieved there was no awkward tension between us.
"Uh, I don't really know. You can choose," I answer, whilst still searching around me, slightly intimidated by the swarms of people.
"Alright...what about sushi?" he turns his head to me, those blue eyes glinting while his dark hair flops sexily over them. No point denying just how gorgeous he is anymore.
"Sure, I'm up for that," my reply comes out short, the smouldering stare he's giving me leaving me slightly breathless.
"Great." he nods his head before gesturing for me to come next to him. Damn, I was really enjoying the view from behind him.
Shaking my head slightly in vain attempt of destroying that recent thought, I begin trekking beside him. An awkward silence presumes between us for a few minutes, leaving me to reflect on his most recent signs of frustration.
"You know, I haven't really thanked you: for everything you've done for me. I don't know what I'd have done without you," I take a moment to look at him, carefully. "and um, I'm sorry for all the shit I've dropped on you. But whenever you want me to go, don't hesitate in saying so," My words quieten to a whisper before once again lying, "I'm sure I'd be fine." my voice trembles as the last words leave my mouth, unveiling just how insecure and vulnerable I am.
