Palkadon woke up once again from the dreaded nightmare. Thrace had not again visited him, but Palkadon had feared the king of Death from the start. Quinn's death was still fresh in his mind. Falcore's screech of pain and loss rang in his ears. Palkadon shivered. Malsa had still not returned and Misty had cried herself to sleep, still whispering about deals and bloodlust. Misty woke from her deep slumber next to Palkadon, screeching in pain.
"What is it, Misty? What's wrong?" Palkadon stood and frantically searched his screeching sister.
"My wings... they're...they're hurting!" Misty struggled to yell. She screeched again, the wail piercing Palkadon's ears.
Palkadon tried to comfort his sister, but she was still wailing in pain. Misty looked terrified.
"Misty, where is it hurting?" Palkadon asked.
"It's broken, in multiple places." Misty wailed.
"How? It couldn't be broken over night. I don't see anything."
"It's Malsa."
"Oh, I understand. Do you think she fell or got attacked?"
"It was an attack. It seems as if she got it broken and then got forced off a cliff."
"I'm going to Death tonight to figure all of this out."
"No! You can't leave me here! They'll find me and hurt me too!"
"Misty, sweet one, you have Falcore and Akela here to protect you. One day, I'm going to leave the cave to start a family of my own. I can't be there all the time. I'm only telling you the truth. I will be leaving very soon since I have finished school, and when Falcore reaches his thousandth year in five moons, I will become the Infinity king. I can't be there all the time. You have to know that, Misty. Alright?"
"Alright. but I still don't want you leaving. Falcore isn't here most of the time, and neither is Akela. I can't stand being alone."
"Aren't you going back to training tomorrow?"
"Yes, but who's going to be here when I get back? No one!"
"Hush, dear sister. You will disturb our parents."
Palkadon could hear his parents hushed voices in their room. Falcore's voice rose to a shout as they continued to fight.
"I can't do this anymore, Akela! You keep going off and meeting these other dragons when you belong to me! Me I tell you!" Falcore roared in frustration.
"I don't love you anymore! I can't when you are constantly gone!" Akela's foot thudded against the hard rock floor so Palkadon could feel it from where he stood.
"Then I will stay here all the time and babysit you like a little chick!"
"That's not what I meant. You're always at some kind of meeting, and you don't have time for me anymore!"
"How could you say that? I love you! Isn't that enough?"
"No, Falcore. I'm leaving. I'm taking Misty with me."
"You won't touch a feather on her!"
"She's my daughter! I get to choose who she lives with."
"Well she is my daughter too, and she gets to choose who she lives with on her own. Akela, she belongs where her heart is. She's old enough to choose the right choice without our input. Why don't you go ask her for Dragon Lord's sake?"
"Fine! I will. Misty! Come here at once."
Misty looked at Palkadon with a look of worry, then got up and walked into the cave. Palkadon followed her to the entrance to got in closer earshot.
